Sidwell Application Process- Blech

Anonymous
The process left a bad impression. Interview by alum, and no contact in person with any administrators. Just parent tours, a huge uninspiring meeting in the library, and a few online tests. Anyone else has in-person contact with admint? How would they ever assess if they don't meet in person with the applicant?

I thought Sidwell admissions staff interviewed parent and student (this is for HS).

And yet if you are offered a spot, you will take it. They have no incentive to do better.

Ha, PP! You are spot on.

We applied for high school and were interviewed by alumni as well. No personal contact with the administrative team. Fingers crossed they will google my husband.

As an SFS parent, I have to say this interview by an alum must have started recently. Ridiculous idea, if you ask me (no one did), as it probably gives a whole "rush" feel to the process. Alums have no idea how to assess potential applicants and I doubt that they are well-trained on how to interview for this. I have heard from friends that the parent tours are pretty uninspiring as well.

I'm sorry it's leaving such a bad impression for so many. It really is a good school community!

Why do you want them to do that? I thought you said this was for high school?

Applying for 9th grade and we are keener on three other schools since the Sidwell interview process. Not impressed by a school that doesn't want to get to know us personally. Every other school from St Albans to GDS, Madiera, and Potomac felt like they wanted to get to know my kid and family. You may say if we get in we'd take the spot like past posters said but they have moved from top choice and agree with original poster.

Your child is applying to St. Alban’s and Madeira? Okay.

Wrong, my kids didn’t apply to schools with bad admissions experiences ever again. And Sidwell was lousy.
