I had never heard of her before. Maybe I live under a rock. Out of curiosity I checked the NYT best sellers list and 3 of her books were on there. I read a few chapters of “It Ends with Us” and felt it was trite. I also couldn’t get over an author writing a book geared towards adults naming a main character Lilly Bloom and she just so happens to own a flower shop. Cute in a kids book but not for a more mature audience. For those that are fans why do you like her work? No judgement or snark intended just curious what was appealing. |
She comes out of a YA/Romance background -- supercharged emotional writing. Feel all the feels kind of writing.
Not everyone's thing. |
I used to but then I heard some criticism and gosh I was embarrassed that I liked them!!!! I just sort of breezed through it but yeah it's ALL so cringey and even though her intent is to help others understand the cycle of abuse, it does glorify an abusive relationship. |
I LOVED Verity as I was reading it. But now that I've sat on it for a week, I have a little cringe that I can't put my finger on. I'm interested to read another though, and give her another try. |
The domestic violence books surprised me. I had only heard that book was great, but I really did not enjoy it. I don't think I'll read any more of her books. |
OP, thanks for posting this! I picked up this book because it is on the bestsellers list and am so confused. Trite is a good description. Who and why is enjoying this kind of writing? |
No. Emotionally manipulative, too much trauma, and the writing is basic.
I think she's popular because her writing style is very accessible to people with average reading skills and expectations. |
No. They’re for lower level readers. Fyi |
I hate them. They are all very similar, boring and redundant. |
Yep I think them. They are easy readers, but that's what I like. I read long drawn out legal analysis all day.
Layla and Verity are two of her books that are more thrillers than romance. I enjoyed both. |
I live under a rock too because I had never heard of her until sometime in the last six months. I haven't read any of her books yet, but I'm getting in the mood for something lighter after reading a lot of mysteries and psychological thrillers, so maybe I should give one a try. |
I’m with you on the light reading. No shame in it! I’ve only read Verity. It was a quick and entertaining read, but I hated the gender dynamics for reasons I don’t quite remember. It didn’t leave me wanting to read more. |
She was huge in the New Adult genre about a decade ago. All of my 20-something friends were obsessed with Hopeless and Ugly Love. I could never get into them, and now whenever I see she’s the author, it’s an automatic pass. |
No, but I super admire her business acumen. |
I love her books. I need my happily ever afters |
