I read Verity and liked it. I’m not sure I’d want to read her other books as they seem to profit off of trauma. Women cry and gush over her books in videos and say how much the stories of abuse mean to them. For example: “I never cry while reading books but this ending just made me burst out in tears,” one person wrote. Another: “I’m just about to go hit rock bottom, so I was wondering if anyone needs anything while I’m there,” another chimed in, clutching a copy of It Ends With Us. https://time.com/6221457/colleen-hoover-trauma-it-starts-with-us/ After reading the Time article I realized it was the trauma that made these so captivating and I had to question why I was drawn into Verity in the first place. I felt a bit duped. |
Ah! I’m the one ☝️ above who liked Verity and maybe I liked it because it was a thriller. I didn’t know she wrote romance, which I can’t stand to read. |
