Our kitchen is small. The cook in the family thinks it’s a great idea for sous vide, crusty bread, side dishes when roast in oven, etc.
How do you get the best use from yours? Would you recommend? |
| I don’t have an Anova, but use my Breville Smart Oven Pro all the time. Oven heats up quicker than my wall oven, has many settings like airfry, bake, toast, etc. we use it multiple times most everyday. It earns its place on the countertop. |
| We have a big toaster oven that sits out on the counter, and although I'd prefer not to have an appliance like that out, it does earn it's spot. We use it all the time instead of the oven because it heats up faster and doesn't heat up the room (an issue in summer). We're empty nesters and usually eat different things (one meat eater, one no meat), so the smaller size suits our cooking needs. We use it for anything you'd normally cook in the oven. |
| I used to use my countertop oven all the time until I got an air fryer. |

Our wall oven is a gas oven. So I'm concerned about fumes and try to minimize its use.
Our countertop oven is electric. i use it whenever I can. Mostly though for heating up lunch food like frozen egg rolls, jalapeno poppers, sometimes baking potatoes. Etc. Anything where the wall oven seems like overkill. |
+1. It’s more like “what do you not use it for?” I only use my big oven for large roasts, turkeys, cooking multiple dishes of lasagna, etc. |
+1000 One option is also getting a speed oven — it’s a combo microwave and convection oven. |
| I use my toaster oven all the time, and when it dies I might consider replacing it with a fancier one. But if I had a small kitchen, it would be the first thing to go. It’s huge and we already have an oven and a microwave. These do not “sous vide.” They’re just putting words on the package. |

NP bumping this thread to see if anyone else on here went ahead and bought the Anova oven. I got mine a couple weeks ago, mostly to see if it could fulfill its promise of “bagless sous vide”. I’ve been thrilled with it when it deigns to work, but it loses connectivity with the app frequently and doesn’t always recognize that the water tank is attached and ready to produce steam.
I’m on the fence about returning it, because I love the combi steam features. In sous vide mode it produces food identical to what we’ve made the traditional way in bags or jars with the immersion circulator and it’s amazing to get those results without the effort and waste involved in bagging. But I feel certain that a few years down the road they will have worked out all the frustrating glitches. I’d love to hear of others’ experiences if you own one. |
