Suspended 4 times from high school sophomore year

My DS has 3. 5 GPA, the reason he was suspended last year was because he political protest. It was a “safety/dress code issue”.
Will college asked the question why he got suspended ? My DH thought it was a good idea, because he is into currently events, but we are not sure how it look when they asked him what kind of “protest”… do they find out ?

Four times in one year though?

My guess - it was a protest against wearing a mask. Your DS would have to write an excellent explanation of why he was suspended. I, personally, would like to think that colleges would realize the impact Covid had on teenagers and cut our kids some grace. But if he is applying to some of the most liberal schools in the country - who knows how they'll react.

If he was protesting against masks, maybe Liberty University will be a good option for him.

If he made these choices, let him figure out how to get into college.

Colleges will ask only if they don’t outright reject him. If it was a mask thing, the best option is to apply to very conservative schools and make the suspensions the subject of the essay.

Op, There is more to the story that you are sharing. He had to do something pretty severe to get suspended 4 times. Schools rarely suspend now.

Last year when Governor Youngkin came into office, he issued an executive order that stated parents could opt out of any school mask mandates. There was a 10 year old girl at Waynewood Elementary in FCPS that was suspended at least four times for not wearing a mask. When the VA legislature passed a law allowing parents to opt out of masks, she was at the signing. I think he handed her the pen that he used to sign the legislation.

Suspended for political protest? I’d lean in and write my essay about it. You’d stand out at least.

He’s going to have to explain this. I would explain it upfront in his essays and discuss how he grew from the experience and had had model behavior since.

NP

Do all colleges even ask about discipline/suspensions?
When my son applied to schools last year, I remember him mentioning they asked on one of his applications. He had already applied to others and didn't mention it, so I assumed those colleges didn't ask.

How would a school find out about suspensions? Are they listed on public school transcripts?

Your kid should write an essay explaining why they are so selfish as to put at risk people in danger of a deadly virus.

The Common App asks if you’ve been suspended and lets you explain. It also asks the counselor if you were suspended.

Wait, so OP's kid was suspended 4 times for same violation? I only count 1 from OP's post
