Online tutoring typically has a much bigger discount than $5. Parents look on Wyzant, Outschool etc. there ar dozens of tutors that charge very low rates. Don’t focus on the expensive tutors with dozens of perfect reviews, but look for the hidden gems. It takes some work upfront, but you can find someone great who lives in a low cost area for a very affordable price.

My HS DD has a French tutor in Idaho who is amazing and only charges $20 an hour. The AP Biology tutor is a teacher lives somewhere Texas and charges $50 and is probably one of the most gifted teachers my child has encountered.

In home special education for any grade is very expensive ($100+) in this area. It’s the cost of living, shortage of special education teachers and the commute time.

Where to find these tutors? All the ones I’ve checked are 120-150 per hour (for a 5th grader).

$45/hour. I’m an ES teacher and I sometimes find that an hour is too long for younger students (k-2), especially if we are focusing on one subject, so in that case we prorate.

I've paid as much as $350 per hour for AP Calc and ACT prep one-on-one tutoring, in a very high COL area. The tutor was excellent, and I hired him to get my twice exceptional kid (gifted but with learning disabilities) to higher achievement in both subjects. We've also paid $90/hr for a writing specialist for him - exactly the same price as my other child's private music lessons. Everything in-person, since my kids learn better that way.

For FCPS high school math teachers, the rate seems to be $80-100/hour. They all want cash only, payable at the beginning of the session.

High school math, $60 for algebra 1, $75 for algebra 2, and $80 for above that.

I’m working on getting comfortable enough to tutor AP stats—there is a severe shortage of people willing/able to tutor that class, and I think I could get $120 once I’m up to speed.

Np but I also just started searching wyzant from a recommendation from a neighbor mom but am not finding good ones so far (most that have had a couple of lessons with my kids seem inexperienced college students or else charge a lot if they are former educators)
What are some tips in finding good quality tutors at a reasonable price on this platform? Any tips would be appreciated!

Regarding AP STATS: Over on the College chat board there are a bunch of parents that said there kids said AP Stats was “easy enough” , no tutor needed.That board isn’t just FCPS, It’s all of Metro DC. On this FCPS board, there is a thread that has parents and teachers describe how Brutal AP STATS is. So what does this mean? Is it just certain kids have a harder time with it, or is it just completely different between districts and it’s “hard” in FCPS?
