DCC lottery results

Zoned for Einstein. Kid ranked Blair #1 and Einstein #2. Got assigned to Einstein.

I’m interested to know how other families ended up.

Your kid was never going to get into Blair. That was a waste of time. People list Blair first so they can definitely get their 2nd choice. MCPS touts that almost everyone gets their 1st or 2nd choice so you have to think about choosing strategically.

Your comment doesn't make sense. How is it a "waste of time" to rank any school first? If they had ranked Einstein first, they would have been assigned there too, since that is their zoned school. Might as well rank Blair first if it's of interest, even though there are very few students assigned there via the lottery.

NP - we live in an Einstein-zoned neighborhood and I know many kids who live here and went/go to Blair. It’s not impossible at all.

MANY? I do not believe you. I am zoned for Einstein and have had 4 kids go through DCC schools. I only know 1 kid that was able to get into Blair through the lottery process (and that was as a sophomore). I've known plenty of kids who went to Blair (who were zoned for Einstein) but they were all in magnet programs or had sibling preference.

Same thing happened to my kid. He ranked Wheaton first and Kennedy second. Kennedy was his home school and he ended up getting Kennedy. He was upset at first but he's happy with the school now.

Your kid will be fine at Einstein.

Did application decisions also come out? We are zoned for Blair, ranked Blair 1 but also applied to CAP.

Or we can agree to disagree, like civilized people. Why do you assume that someone whose experience is different than yours MUST be lying? That’s a strange reaction.

My sense is that it is not as hard to get assigned to Blair via the lottery than it used to be a few years ago. Einstein and Wheaton have been becoming more popular too, so maybe not as many people are ranking Blair first.

Did this come in the mail today, OP? I see that we have a piece of mail coming from MCPS but post hasn't arrived.

Did anyone get their first choice that wasn't their home school?

Op here. A friend of DC’s got Wheaton, and another got Northwood. Both kids are zoned for Einstein, and both got their top choices.

We did. We are zoned for Northwood but put Einstein as our first choice and Blair second. We got assigned to Einstein

My daughter liked Einstein because of the programs there, especially the IB program and the arts focus. I'm happy for her.
