What happens if you don't do service hours in middle school?

I believe it is a requirement for Civics class. Maybe only for Honors though? My kid had to do them and enter them and verify them in their online system. It’s just 15 hrs. I don’t know what happens if they don’t meet the requirement.

It used to be a requirement for both Middle school ( like 10 hours ) and in addition more service hours if you were a candidate for national Junior Honor Society. Then the pandemic hit and a lot of school eliminated them or only required some( less) for NJHS. I couldn’ t even tell you what our MS requires now. I know for NJHS air is required but no idea if they are required otherwise.

It’s a requirement for civics class and nothing happens if they don’t do them. My kid was in honors so I don’t know if it was a requirement for all classes. He volunteered outside of school because he wanted to but didn’t log any hours. It doesn’t affect their grade and this is something no one checks or follows up on.

I have an 8th grader in honors civics and have heard nothing about service hours.

I feel like this is not something that can be enforced.

It’s definitely required for NJHS at our middle school and also used to be required for civics as well(it’s an all Honors middle school school). Something like 10 for Covid plus an additional 5 if you were in NJHS. There hasn’t been good communication about civics portion since before pandemic but this year I believe 10 hours are needed for NJHS.
