VCU acceptance email then oops email?

Anonymous
Did anyone else’s kid get an email saying “you belong here, Larla, congratulations on your acceptance…,” then an invite to their open house.

5 hours later get an email saying it was sent in error, you’re not accepted yet, we’re still reviewing your application.

Wtf?

????!!!!!!

I'm so sorry, OP. If this was where your child wanted to go, they could call the admissions office to have them clarify (and possibly apologize again, because that's a cruel thing to do to kids).

Oh Gosh that’s horrible!

So sorry to hear it. Specifically with VCU, or another school, PP?

VCU. There must be a glitch in their system.

Unfortunately false acceptance letters have gone out (from a variety of schools) almost every year. This article is from 2014, but it lists many examples of this happening.

I'm so sorry that happened to your daughter. I hope she gets good news when the real decision notification is made.

Perhaps the second letter is the one that is the mistake?

No. The article above explained it all. When my DC received the first email, we thought something was amiss (it had literally been only a few days since DC had submitted the app) and there was nothing in the portal about being admitted. It’s fine , but it was certainly untimely, since my DC had several rejections at that point!

Horrible!

This article was from Dec 29. OP, was your senior part of this group?

This is op, thank you for this article.

Yes, got the email on the 27th but the second one went into junk so she didn’t even see it until Friday. Very upsetting, she was so excited and told her our extended family over break. We were out of town so she was just checking from her phone. She registered for the open house too.

I’m sorry for the other kids that also got this email.

Accept immediately and withdraw other applications if you’re worried that it’s an oops. Then respond to their oops with an e-mail that you’ve withdrawn other applications in reliance on their offer which you accepted

They won't be obligated to accept you, just because you withdraw all other applications.
