How many here had students that missed being NMSF and were Commended instead

Anonymous
Did they put that they were Commended students on any of their college applications?
Anonymous
I did and yes, they listed that and AP award as one award/slot.

Yes, mine did, only missed SF cutoff by 1 "pt"on indices

My kids were NMSF but if they were commended I would have had them list that as an award.

Yes both were commended (1480 and 1490 scores) and listed it. They didn't otherwise have much to list in honors/awards since their school really doesn't give out awards other than recognitions at graduations. I expect this is another area where there's a lot of variation by school. My son went to a different school in 9th grade that seemed to give out awards for everything -- student of the quarter, most improved, etc. in every class.

Our school just now told us that our child received the Commended award. How much do you think it helps to have it listed in an application?

DC put it on his applications, especially his UC applications which wouldn’t accept his SAT scores.

Same here. My kid goes to a school that gives out no awards.

My kid listed the award/recognition.

Little to none...your SAT score is most important. Nice you also did well on the PSAT, but who cares.

DD did, and she put it on applications, but I really don’t think it matters much. She also had high SAT scores, which obviously is more important. This TJ thing is overblown, although its dumb that the school did not deliver the certificates.

Hello TJ's attorney!

Just stating an obvious fact. The PSAT scores are important for various scholarships tied to those scores, but little else. Confusing or surprising to you?

It would be odd, but do you think a college cares that your PSAT score was a 1500 yet your SAT score was a 1400 (this would be quite strange admittedly). Conversely, do you think they care your PSAT score was 1300 if your SAT score is 1580?

Would you bother putting commended status down for MIT? Probably not.

^ My kid put it down for an HYPSM. Why not? He took ACT so it did show something a little different.
