Whitetail Conditions - Whitetrailers

Anonymous
My kids are supposed to start Whitetrailers this weekend and looking at the conditions at Whitetail I’m hesitant to send them. It looks like trails are closing by the day and the ones that are open are showing a lot of grass and dirt. Has anyone been this week? I’m wondering if it’s as bad as it looks on the cams because it looks unsafe to me.

Wasn’t at whitetail but agree the warm weather has been tough on the ski resorts. Springlike conditions are hardly unsafe but do lend themselves to different technique. Why not let your kids learn that now?

Ski patrol will close a trail if it is unsafe. I would send them if you paid for it.

They pushed it back a week but hard to see how this coming weekend will be any better. It’s fine for beginners because most of the greens are open but for more advanced skiers like my kids it will be a waste of time with only a couple blues and no black diamonds open. Hopefully colder nights will come eventually so they can make snow.

My kids ski blues every weekend for ski club. They are experts and still learn a ton. Why not go? Seems silly if you paid.

Blues are a great place to progress your skills.

People - it doesn't matter. Whitetrailers was canceled last weekend. Op and I and all the others got an email about it.

WT only had like 6 trails open none of which were blacks

Hopefully, these colder temps will allow good snow making and open up the backside

10 day forecast as one day in the 30s. Not a single freezing day high.

As long as it’s freezing at night, they will be able to make snow.

Do you think they will cancel again this week? They’re calling for rain and upper 40s tomorrow so conditions might actually be worse this weekend sadly.

Mercersburg had a few nights of below freezing temps. So hopefully they got the snow guns going

I heard from a ski instructor at Liberty over the weekend that whitetail was in even worse shape than liberty with lost of dirt patches to watch out for. I have to assume it is worse at night as you can't see the this spots as easily.

I’m expecting an email today canceling Whitetrailers this weekend too. The slopes have more dirt this morning from what I can tell from the cams and temps today will be in the 50s. It looks like it rained last night. It’s incredibly frustrating that the snow and weather report on the site hasn’t been updated since 12/28 since most resorts update this daily. The weather is what it is but I wish they would be more transparent/honest about conditions.

You need them to tell you that you can't ski when it's been 50 degrees and raining?

My family loves to ski and my DH has been obsessively monitoring the conditions at local resorts, as well as those a bit further out. It's apparent looking at the cameras and weather predictions that skiing at Liberty/WT are a no go. They can't even really make snow.

It may not help with the Whitetrailers but if you want to ski semi-locally, Timberline looks to have better conditions.
