up until this point, she has used neutrogena, and then we used tried paula's choice. I don't even know how to figure out whether she has oily, dry or combination skin. How do I figure this out? open to any recommendations! |
Try cutting down/out sugar and carbs and upping her veggie intake first. Acne is an expression of something going on in the inside -- like hormonal fluctuations, or gut imbalance. |
Take her to a derm. |
+1. |
This worked for my teen.
1) Derm. He was prescribed Epiduo and antibiotics to be taken as needed. He does not take the antibiotics 2) Nizorol - anti dandruff shampoo. Helps with chest and back acne too. 3) Having two different towels - one for head, one for body. Make sure that water while washing scalp does not go over your body 4) Having seperate comb and brush and washing it with shampoo too. 5) Laundering in the hottest water and with oxyclean and changing the bed linen and pillow covers every week. 6) Daily shower. 7) Using an aloe based moisturizer for body and face. We buy this... https://www.amazon.com/Patanjali-Saundarya-Aloe-Kesar-Chandan/dp/B06X9NNQ21/ref=asc_df_B06X9NNQ21/ 8) Using a body wash with benzoyl peroxide |
Agree that a dermatologist would be helpful. For better home skincare recommendations, I’d also suggest posting in the Beauty/Fashion forum. |

This is half nonsense. Take her to a dermatologist. |
Agree with taking her to derm. In addition to prescribing meds, the derm will have recommendations for skincare products that you can get from a CVS, Target etc. We were told to use Cetaphil and/or Cerave cleansers and moisturizers for example. |
Here’s what worked for my son:
Mario Badescu acne face wash skin smart hypochlorus spray shower before bed so oily hair doesn’t get on face wash pillowcases as often as possible |
Puberty is one big giant hormonal fluctuation. |
We were told—Wash with Cerave AM and PM; moisturize the whole face with Cerave AM and PM; mix a pea sized amount of Differin with the moisturizer for the PM application.
I would have never thought to moisturize teen boys—but, this worked very well for both my boys, skin isn’t perfect, but, just a tiny amount of acne. |
This is exactly what any derm will tell you. Unless it is severe acne going on this is likely what you would told to try first. Also, is he washing his face twice per day. A lot of tweens struggle with just basic washing |
Besides meds from the derm, reducing dairy helped my kids the most. |
Salycilic acid face wash helped me in my teens |
