A Christmas Miracle Happened - DCUM style

I had to do a 12 hour round trip this weekend in the freezing cold in a 10 year old American Made SUV. Somehow it did not break down. According to DCUM that is impossible. I am fully expecting Mary Bara the CEO of General Motors to congratulate me in the morning. I heard in Japan it will be a national day of sorrow. How could an American car do that? When Japan finds out they will be pouring billions into R&D.

Please DCUM Gods of Auto explain how it happened. I read thousands of posts on the Cars and Transportation thread and it just cant happen. No American Car could do a 12 hour round trip at ten years of age successfully.

I survived several hours of near zero temperatures driving my 12 year old Mazda 5 on icy roads, driving a dog a need to and from the vet. The doors were stuck shut from the rain that had flash frozen. When I finally opened the driver door, I heard cracks like I'd broken the thing. Then when I drove off, I heard lots of little pings - all the ice bits that were falling on the road. Oh and the check engine light went on halfway to my destination. The defogging wasn't working well, so I couldn't heat the car properly. And I encountered black ice driving downhill in a turn - the worst, since you have to brake and turn. I could feel the wheels slipping. And it was at night. Very little visibility.

My trusty old Mazda saw me through!

You are weirdly insecure OP.

And if you had a reliable car you wouldn’t have been stressing about it the entire time.

I’m not surprised at all. Today’s American cars are more reliable than Japanese cars. My 2008 Ford Fusion is still running strong at 310.000 miles.
I was told it wouldn’t last 100.000 miles. Meanwhile, my wife’s 2010 Toyota Camry was done before 150.000 miles and had to be replaced this year.

Was this trip part of a rescue operation? Do you have the pups’ mama? Can you post pics? I don’t care about your car, but I am interested in the puppies.

Anecdotes are not data. Sorry you can't afford decent cars though.

Oh, honey, no. You need to get up to speed because your ignorance is embarrassing.

I really just don't like the interiors of the American made cars, even the top trims. A few friends have high end Chevy/GMC's and the insides just feel dated and cheap to me.
