Southwest Airlines in a nationwide meltdown

Anonymous
Apparently no pilots, flight attendants, or support staff. The entire airline is broken, over 64% of flights today are canceled.

SWA is trying to blame weather, but it’s total BS. The scenes of chaos are Coast to coast.

i'm sorry the day after Christmas, a major weather even just happened temps very low and you are surprised.

Go find something else important to talk about.

This is a nothing burger it stinks but honestly fly on this holiday you risk it.

I have no idea how anyone could claim it’s “BS” that weather is the cause given the nationwide terrible weather we have had.

We flew SW home on 12/24 and the departures board was over half cancellations. When we landed at DCA the line to check bags with SW stretched all the way outside. As we were leaving to take the shuttle to our car, we heard them announce a flight was cancelled and people on that flight should “go home.”

I heard it was JetBlue that had it worse?

Anyway, all these companies are trash.

The “terrible” weather was 72 hours ago and no other airlines are reporting such insane levels of cancelations. This has to do with Southwest’s insanely tight staffing model, which no slack for disruptions. It’s a complete systemic breakdown of a company that has under invested in staff and IT systems.

The weather has been a serious issue but who wants to work with covid, colds and flu's and probably little sick leave.

Yeah, no. Search “Southwest Airlines” on Twitter. You can read for yourself what a clusterf#%¥ happening looks like. This is about Southwest and Southwest alone. No other airline is this messed up right now. They all had the same weather issues on the same holiday.

No one uses Twitter anymore, not since it became a fascist cesspool.

Better to just use this site: https://flightaware.com/live/cancelled

A lot of really pissed off Soutwest customers are using it right now.

It definitely seems worse for SWA. We spent 3 hours at the airport waiting for crew to show up (plane was there and bags loaded)-- then once they canceled they refused to offload luggage and said it would get returned to BWI in 3-4 days (or we could collect it if we could get to our destination by then but they can't actually get us there til Sunday)

+1. This is not happening on the other airlines. SA is having some sort of systemic failure.

I mean, they knew the risks of flying at this time of the year. Oh well.

DS is having a horrible time with United. He is in a hotel for a secoond night. Spent his whole day on line trying to sort things out today after hours on line 12/25. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

If you try to call Southwest you either get a busy signal or it disconnects. Even searching for flights on their website I got put in a "digital waiting room" fr a while
