Just realized my gray interior walls have been getting me down

Anonymous
We bought our house 7 years ago and had to quickly decide on a paint color. I picked a Benjamin Moore gray with white trim throughout the house except for two kids’ rooms we had painted blue. Over thanksgiving I painted the master bedroom a cheery blue/green and this week just finished painting the kitchen a soft green.

It makes me so stinking happy to walk into those two rooms! The burst of color puts a smile on my face. I don’t think I realized how cold and stark our house was with all the gray paint. Now I am looking for a color for our living room/dining room area. Any suggestions?

Funny, I was just considering painting three of my bedroom walls an ash gray/black. The fourth wall has wallpaper.

I hope the PP is joking.

Grey, that horrible trend, is depressing. I'm glad you noticed, OP. I paint my house like I dress myself, in my favorite colors, because I don't care at all what people think is in or out of fashion. All that matters is that I'm happy.

I painted my living room "fabulous grape". And it is indeed fabulous

NP. My house is very open concept for the common areas so I basically need to paint the common areas the same color. Anyone have suggestions for a subtle color? We get a ton of natural light from north and south.

Walls are currently painted beige which I don’t like, but I also don’t want a cold grey.

Our house is being renovated and they just painted a BM pale gray on the walls. I love it, it's like a canvas I can do whatever I want with. Before the walls were painted yellow or green or had wallpaper, which narrowed down what I could do, sometimes I just put art I liked up anyway even if it didn't really go. But with this gray, I'm looking at all kinds of fun art and rugs and pillows. Plus this gray is so calming to me and goes perfectly with some blues and greens that I've done in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Maybe once I figure out the decor I'll add an accent wall in a fun color but for now I'm psyched about my gray!

If interested, its BM 1548 Classic Gray.

+1 except I don't wear flashy colors. I don't like to stand out. My car is also a bland color (white, silver).

But I love color in my house. I absolutely detested the gray trend. I've remodeled two kitchens, and had color in both. My rooms have cheerful colors, too.

The gray is gloomy and depressing. I don't understand people who like the gray trend.

Soft yellow? Since you already have greens and blues.

I love green, too. My kitchen and LV are green with beige.

Classic Gray is nice and I have it in a bedroom. It's a pretty brown-toned/beige gray, not a true gray, so it feels a lot warmer.

OP, how about a cream? It's neutral but warm and has that cheery yellow undertone.

I like yellow.

OP here- that’s what I thought at first when I had to quickly decide what color to paint when we moved in. Gray goes with so much, it’s so calming. But really after a while it’s just depressing.

Could you use the blue/green you love from your bedroom? My bedroom (upstairs) and family room ( in back of the house) are both a deeper navy. Or, look at the paint chip from the bedroom or kitchen and see the suggested colors that go with it or are lighter on the paint chip. Goodluck and welcome to the world of color!

OP yes! I 100% understand what you are talking about with the gray. I painted the interior of our house a light on trend BM color when we went to sell. The previous color was a dated cream with yellow undertones. The gray was beautiful and showed well but it was so cold and depressing to live in. I was so happy when it was time to move out and so happy our new house had warm white/cream walls.

Same. For years had colorful walls and any that were not were beige. I like the neutral backdrop of the grey.

Still love my greys (also have classic grey in my LR) and find beige totally depressing.
