From my experience, anywhere that isn’t suburbanized or that has a large transplant population feels pretty ‘southern’ in Virginia. Sometimes I feel as if places in Western Loudoun feel much more southern that Fredericksburg even though it’s geographically more northern due to its untouched character. But whenever I drive out to western prince William around Haymarket and Gainesville it feels very southern, I often hear southern accents among the elderly in restaurants and supermarkets. From your experience, where does Virginia begin to feel like the South? |
Prince William county. The confederate flags start showing up on trucks around Woodbridge. |
Anything south of Alexandria. Fat people everywhere consuming vast quantities of fried food. |
West of Leesburg in Loudoun County feels, sounds, looks pretty southern. |
Right across key bridge
Don’t kid yourself |
The saying in Charlottesville is people from the South think they are up North. People from up North think they are in the South.
Please pretend I didn’t capitalize those. |
South of Fairfax (Fairfax Station/Clifton) |
+1 We have a bassackwards, southern-style governor. |
South of Arlington |
Confederate flags start showing up on residential flag poles in Fauquier County, in between Middleburg and Warrenton in my experience. |
This is the answer. |
