Does this exist? Years ago I remember an acquaintance saying a type of yoga that if done just-so reduces heart rate to be restorative - enough so that it makes person feel rested afterward (like they had hours of sleep I think)
Googling various terms leading me nowhere TIA! |
Usually a Yin Yoga class will fit this bill. |
I find Yin yoga to be very restorative, almost as good as a massage. I haven’t been able to find my favorite instructor post-pandemic and I really miss her!
Yoga Nidra is also restorative. |
Restorative yoga or yoga nidra. |
I had been doing yoga for a long time when I started yin yoga. I don't know if I would start would this if I were a beginner but I can say it's done more for my flexibility than any other type. |
I’ve always heard yoga teachers say about yoga nidra that it’s incredibly restful—like getting tons of extra sleep. |
Yin is intense poses held for long periods. Great for flexibility.
Restorative yoga is more supported, less intense, more meditative. Then you have your strengthening yoga and your flow yoga where it can be almost cardio like depending onbhow fast you go through the sun salutations. Love yoga. Something for everyone. |
only if you can find the right instructor - at least for me. I am a large breasted woman and have injured my back because of ill informed instructors. I have found it difficult to find quality instructors who pay attention to those of us who are somewhat inflexible and have a body type that is not the usual yoga body type. |
I like the “slow flow” classes on the Peloton app for a restorative practice. Chelsea Jackson Roberts is particularly good. |
