I followed Cat Marnell's beauty stuff back in the day, and read her book about her drug exploits. She is originally from Bethesda. Her sister now has a very public TikTok that is a bit disturbing.
There's lots of threads on Reddit about them.

Apparently Cat is newly sober. I know they live their lives publicly on social media, but the content is also a bit disturbing and sad. Anyone else follow them?

Wow, I was just wondering about Cat Marnell the other day - mostly, "is that girl still alive?" though tbh.

I didn't know she had a sister. I feel bad that we all read her trainwreck stories for entertainment back in the day (I'm including myself in this). I hope I'm a better person now and I hope Cat stops trying to earn her living by basically prostituting her pain, addiction, and dysfunction.

I don't follow either of them but I agree with you that the whole thing is disturbing.

I liked Cat back in the day, despite or maybe partially because of her struggles. We're similarly aged but I was dodging pot smoke at parties because of a security clearance and she was like....the total opposite of that, blowing up her life on angel dust as a see and be seen NYC personality. But at the same time, kind of likeable? Her beauty recs with XOJANE were ON POINT.

What's the gist with this all? Is there a Cliffs Notes version without going down a Reddit rabbit hole?

Cat was an incredible writer back in the day. But she was (is?) a MESS.

If her sister is the same way, I don’t know how much pity to have for them. They grew up quite privileged (iirc, Cat’s drug issues started at a top boarding school) and they had every development opportunity imaginable handed to them.

After two seconds scrolling through the link to Emily’s Instagram, I see stuff about “narcissistic parents” and “the people who harmed you”. Girl, no. NO. I have followed Cat for years and I know how to read between the lines. The closest thing to “abuse” these parents ever dished out was an admonition to do better in school. They had the most milquetoast, UMC upbringing imaginable. I would have killed to be raised like they were. I would DIE to have their formative years!

Dude, her instagram is scary. I followed the OP's link and I couldn't take it after a few posts. I don't know how to diagnose her and I'm not a doctor, but she's manic and she's having a meltdown...that's how it looks to me. And she thinks she's going to get custody of her kids with that kind of social media presence? Not to mention she's kinda fetishizing Black people and using BLM terminology when she's a living WASP stereotype. smh

Cat Marnell is like a PR pro, despite being a hot mess. There's nothing more interesting that beauty and humiliation/destruction, so she knows that and takes care to remain beautiful while also using and being wacky in public. If you notice, she always has smeared lipstick when she's out in public. It's deliberate and somehow it works. People can't look away from the trainwreck, but we also find her relatable; we like her. The girl is a mess but she knows how to "wear scandal well", I guess.

This sister of hers though, Emily, is just a copycat. That is how she comes off to me. She's clearly trying to play up the "pretty blonde, totally insane behavior, look at me look at me" trick, but she isn't likeable, just irritating and irresponsible with her kids.

Okay, on Instagram Emily Marnell seems to be saying that she and Paris Hilton were kidnapped in the middle of the night by large men as part of some "troubled teen" reform industry. Apparently they were both sent to a teen detention center in Utah. So......does that explain why her Instagram is unhinged?

There's a lot to be said about these "re-education" camps for teens, and I generally believe Paris. I don't believe Emily for a hot second. As a PP said, she's trying to emulate her older sister as a hot mess but she has non of the talent and none of the charm. And she has kids. I don't think anyone would think Cat would be a great mom! That's kind of her thing. And she probably wont ever! Good. Recognize yourself. Sister is going to be in jail.

I have no idea who she is, but it seems like her family has stopped talking to her, and the father has the children, and she's crying, raging, talking shit.. all on her live right now. Is she trans? or one of her kids? She seems to be hyper-focused on trans rights too. She's all over the place.

Can anyone give me cliff notes of what is going on with her? This is wild.
