Planning to get a small cotton candy machine for DH’s cousins children, is this a bad idea?

The children are 9 and 7 and I saw QVC has this style which is quite compact but seems fun https://www.qvc.com/Nostalgia-Retro-Hard-Candy-Cotton-Candy-Maker.product.K407360.html

My kids would have loved this but would your family have?

I would hate having this sticky mess maker in my house. Kids are 6 and 9. I'd check with the parents first.

I would not like this. Not everyone has space for unless gadgets, plus, it's just straight sugar.

Gross. If you gave that to me I would take it to Goodwill the next day.

No. I love cotton candy. Way too dangerous for me to keep that in my house.

Terrible. Like giving a drum set or a puppy.

hmmm, I bought this for my daughter for xmas, but now I am rethinking. I thought it could be fun for playdates and sleepovers.

I absolutely love cotton candy....but no machines in my house.

I think it's fine if you bought it for your own household, but probably not as a gift for others (as seen by the responses above)

I would not want to have to store that in my house. It would probably get used once.

Yeah but a cone/bag of cotton candy is like 1 teaspoon of sugar. You can put one hard candy in it and make a big serving of cotton candy and kids think it’s a hugely indulgent treat.

I bought one once. It made a big mess and broke almost immediately. I felt bad throwing it in the landfill. But the kids did like it.

Ha, same. My elem-aged kids don't even like cotton candy (but I do! mmm, sugar!)

Thanks PPs for your input, I had also considered the little snow cone machines or the small donut ones. For those who would not want this cotton candy machine, what type of joint gift works best for these ages? (the family is exchanging joint gifts for children so our children would receive a joint gift of some sort in return)

Don't really care. I wouldn't want it and I don't want it taking up space in the cabinets or pantry. The precise weight of sugar isn't going to make me reconsider. My kids aren't really into cotton candy either. They were served some at someone's home who had a machine and they took like one bite each and the novelty was over.
