How to look up IMX score?

Anonymous
There used to be a tool on USA swimming where you could look up IMX scores to see how many points a swimmer has. I can't seem to find that. Anyone know?

USA Swimming made a number of changes, including an update to the new SWIMS database. Unfortunately the new database and the current IMX/IMR & Virtual Club Championship scores are not communicating and there's no timeline for that to be fixed. Once its fixed it will be added back to the USA Swimming website.

In the meantime you can use the Power Point calculator to help give you an idea https://www.usaswimming.org/.../power-point-calculator

How many longer distances races does it typically take to get enough points to participate in the IMX games?

You have to have a time in all events to gain an IMX score, which is dependent on age group

9-10's: 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM

11-12's: 400 Free (LC) or 500 Free (SC), 100 back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM

13-14's: 400 Free (LC) or 500 Free (SC), 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 200 IM, 400 IM

It is possible to get enough points to qualify without times in all events. Of course, it’s ideal to have seed times for all of them, but it’s not required.

Also, be careful if you are using swimmingrank.com to determine this as suggested earlier bc the meet announcement says points have to come from one season and the website puts in points for the event if there is any time. For example, my son has points included for an event he swam one time almost 4y ago. It’s not a lot of points bc I assume it’s based on his current age 😂 (and he has over 1800 without two events he does not ever swim) but if someone was close to the required points, this could cause confusion.

Well this is good to know. How do you find which events are giving them points?

Click on their name. If they haven't bettered one or more times this season just go to their tab for that stroke and figure out the difference.

Here's an example: https://www.swimmingrank.com/mdva/strokes/strokes_pv/scy_DMAJNBKCO_imx.html

The table gives the date for the PB in each event, along with the corresponding power points. If you wanted to replace one of the scores all you'd have to do is click the event tab (100BR, 100FL, etc.) near the top of the screen to figure out the power points associated with the top swim from this season.

There are power points associated with every swim, they just aren’t used very often.

What matters for IMX meet qualification is the points for the IMX events for the age group (above).

Did you used to need a time in each event? Maybe it was a club-specific requirement but my kid didn’t qualify despite def having the points bc didn’t have a time in one specific event. This was pre pandemic.

As a meet requirement, no.

They are required to enter every event at the meet though.

I don't believe this is correct. You have to swim all to get your points. Below is from USA swimming: https://www.usaswimming.org/times/imx-imr

How do I qualify for IMX/IMR?
An IMR or IMX score is only established after a swimmer has swum all of the events required for their age group in a sanctioned meet since the start of the current season; both short and long course seasons start Sept. 1 and end Aug. 31 for IMR/IMX purposes. Additionally, a swimmer must complete all of the events in the same course (SCY or LCM) to have a score in that particular course.

Last year, there were 3 NT entries in the boys' meet. https://www.pvswim.org/2122meet/22-107rm.html In one case, the kid got a time in the NT event after the meet entry deadline, but still before the meet started, such that he had a time in all 5 events. I think the kid without a time in the 200 BR snuck in under the age up rule, i.e., he used his 12 year old times and IMX score, at the shorter distance(s), to qualify even though he was 13 when the meet occurred.
