How many longer distances races does it typically take to get enough points to participate in the IMX games?
You have to have a time in all events to gain an IMX score, which is dependent on age group 9-10's: 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM 11-12's: 400 Free (LC) or 500 Free (SC), 100 back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 IM 13-14's: 400 Free (LC) or 500 Free (SC), 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 200 IM, 400 IM Information on the Eastern Zone IMX meet can be found here: http://www.easternzoneswimming.org/meet_info/2023_IMX_Meet_Announcement.pdf
It is possible to get enough points to qualify without times in all events. Of course, it’s ideal to have seed times for all of them, but it’s not required.
Also, be careful if you are using swimmingrank.com to determine this as suggested earlier bc the meet announcement says points have to come from one season and the website puts in points for the event if there is any time. For example, my son has points included for an event he swam one time almost 4y ago. It’s not a lot of points bc I assume it’s based on his current age 😂 (and he has over 1800 without two events he does not ever swim) but if someone was close to the required points, this could cause confusion.
Well this is good to know. How do you find which events are giving them points?
There are power points associated with every swim, they just aren’t used very often. What matters for IMX meet qualification is the points for the IMX events for the age group (above).
