Vent for kitchen

Anonymous
Does anyone have recommendations for this process, who to contact? Not replacing a vent, but for installing a vent over the stove? Apparently HVAC does not do this (at least who we called), nor do appliance repair/sales places.
Thanks!

Call a handyman or electrician.

Consider asking the store where you plan to buy the vent hood. This will require electrical, duct, and exterior vent installation work, so I'd be leery of a general handyman unless experienced and skilled specifically in those area.

I think you need a contractor. We had this done as part of a smaller kitchen renovation with FineCraft.

Don’t mess this up. Hot oil, electrical, liquids all mix in this environment. Not to mention the risk of water intrusion from vent exhaust in roof.

If you have a recirculating fan probably electrician would install. Have to change filters often Bette than nothing.

We did this as part of a kitchen reno. It's not that hard and any kitchen contractor/handyperson can handle it as a small job!
Dumb question, but worth making sure, does that spot above the stove have an easy, not too long line to the outdoors? My stove is on the outside wall, so it was very easy to vent. Just making sure your stove isn't like across the room from the outside wall.
There is something in the code having to do with how powerful your vent is. If it pulls out a large amount of air, code requires it to compensate (forgot the details). Some contractors get around this by putting in a less powerful hood at inspection then replacing it later ha. We didn't have that issue (and you may not be doing inspection anyway).

We got a handyman to do this for us. Our stove is next to our garage wall so he vented through the roof. Having a vent is awesome!

The PP is referring to “make-up air.” Basically, if your vent is so powerful to pull too much existing air from your home, you’ll be left with negative pressure inside. MUA is air brought in from outside when your vent is running. I don’t have that, I just crack a window when I run my vent at the higher settings.

We had a handyman cut a new vent for us, but we also noticed that there are range hoods now that are "ventless."
