ADMISSIONS OFFICER DEMOGRAPHICS AND STATISTICS IN THE US
Research Summary. Using a database of 30 million profiles, Zippia estimates demographics and statistics for admissions officers in the United States. Our estimates are verified against BLS, Census, and current job openings data for accuracy. After extensive research and analysis, Zippia's data science team found that: There are over 13,262 admissions officers currently employed in the United States. 58.6% of all admissions officers are women, while 41.4% are men. The average age of an employed admissions officer is 46 years old. The most common ethnicity of admissions officers is White (67.8%), followed by Hispanic or Latino (13.6%), Black or African American (11.5%) and Asian (4.6%). 15% of all admissions officers are LGBT. Interesting facts. |
| Why are you shouting in the title? |
| I see nothing surprising here. What caught your attention? |
Copy/Pasted. Didn’t mean anything. Parents and students all care about college admission. Who read your application and decided which becket your application would go is important. |
| I just woke up. Why are you yelling? Rude. |
| What about this is particularly interesting? |
|
What is this "database of 30 million profiles"?

Found it by googling. Here is the link: https://www.zippia.com/admissions-officer-jobs/demographics/ |
| So does OP work for Zippia? Trying to generate clicks? |
Still don't know who reviews your kids application. |
| Caps don’t offend me if copy/pasted. I found the data interesting. It bothers me that 15% of AO’s are gay. Being gay/binary/trans has become too much of a hook when most of these kids are privileged and probably won’t face much discrimination in life. I feel elite schools are recruiting too narrowly. You end up with a student body composed of very leftist students intolerant of free speech. Like those Yale kids vowing to follow conservatives around 24 hours a day to make their life unbearable. |
| It would be interesting to know their educational background. What major does one typically have to become an "admissions officer"? |
Who cares about "zippia". Why post this? |
| Admission officer probably covers everyone from the counselor just out of college to the Vice President with decades of experience. |
According to Gallup 21% of Gen Z (which would be kids applying to college) identify as LGBTQ. So 15% would not even reflect the demographics of applicant pool. Also, this data is useless as no individual AO office aligns with this demographic profile exactly. Would be more helpful to know specific college, and even then, who knows what the profile of the particular reader(s) your kid would get. Let’s not worry about stuff we can’t figure out the implications of. |
