| Just saw that Purdue will require SAT/ACT for 2024 grads? Are there any D1 requiring test for 2024? |
| Service academies |
Some required it for the 2023s. And those schools that say "optional" really prefer the recruits take them. |
So what happens if you commit to an above average academic school like "Villanova"... get high GPA but not score well on SAT/ACT? Would they still honor the commitment without submitting the score? or would you have to start looking more at lesser academic schools? |
What a great question? I’d love to know. I take it 2023s we’re not asked to take these tests. |
Some schools definitely required the 2023s to take these test. Others listed them as "optional" but it supposedly helped your case if you took them and had good scores. There are some 2023s that probably got a free pass into a school they may not have otherwise made it into using the "optional" test score approach. My DD is a '23 and was required to submit SAT scores. She is playing for a top D1 program. We approached the process as though SATs would be required from the start, so it was not a surprise to us when we learned they would be required. |
| Anecdotally, every 23 recruit I knew had to submit test scores. It actually seemed pretty much required. |
As it should be. If your privileged lacrosse playing kid can’t get a decent score on the STA/ACT, even for a school as mediocre as Villanova, they should really be looking at schools that are a better fit. I mean come on. |

Villanova University Rankings
Niche rankings are based on rigorous analysis of key statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and millions of reviews. Best Colleges for Nursing in America 4 of 762 Best Catholic Colleges in America 4 of 166 Best Colleges for Accounting and Finance in America 8 of 829 Lots of players did not need to take SAT/ACT. Lots of applicants did not either. This class (2023) is in a unique position that no other class in history had to endure. Taking the test and lacrosse are not related. Typically coaches told our DC that it would only assist if merit aid is warranted. Many D1 coaches did not want players to submit if the scores were not far above the average. Why make it more complicated? All depends on the school. Also, many kids are not at the top academically and lacrosse helps with admissions. Why is that a bad decision for a kid? |
| My 2023 dd has a lot of friends who are d1 recruits (lax and swimming) and they were all given minimum test scores to meet. |
Probably have to look at lesser academic school, the minimums the kids are asked to meet aren’t thar high, so unlikely a kid would do well at the school if they could not meet. I’m not sure I would agree that Villanova is an above average academic school though. |
| Most schools are test optional now. |

Not for athletes. |
This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen on this board. If the college is test optional, it's test optional for ALL students. |
