Suburban ethnic dining options for DH birthday on Sunday

Anonymous
Hi all. We live in capitol hill in DC but want to go to a GREAT restaurant that is not american or italian for DH's birthday sunday. This is with our kids 6 and 9 (but does not have to be casual-they know how to behave in a restuarant). Looking for something that is really terrific food, ambience doesn't matter much.

Bonus points for any gift suggestions for a 44 year old guy who is just terrible to shop for because he is so particular.

Can you at least narrow it down a bit? Japanese? Ethiopian? Mexican? Thai? Vietnamese? Chinese? Korean?

Tiny and in a strip mall (because of course), but Afghan Bistro in Springfield is great. Same for Thai Ghang Waan if you're up for "Thai spicy."

For better ambiance, we like Mama Chang's in Fairfax.

Elephant Jumps for Thai in Falls Church. Ravi Kabob in Arlington.

Bistro Aracosia off MacArthur

Zenebech for Ethiopian.

Rania is great for Indian food.

Indian: Haandi, Falls Church
Vietnamese: Four Sisters, Mosaic District
Chinese: Hong Kong Palace, Falls Church (despite the name, the restaurant is a hole in the wall)
Thai: Sisters' Thai, Mosaic District

Does it have to be suburban? I love Thip Khao and Makan, both in DC.

Celebration by Rupa Vira in Ashburn is good for Indian
Peter Chang in Rockville for Chinese
If you're up to go to Baltimore, Helmand has great Afghan food.
Ruan Thai in Wheaton is barebones, but great Thai food

MY very favorite birthday celebration is getting the tasting menu at Rasika.

I have tons of amazing suburban recs for excellent food, but nowhere I would go for a celebration.

"Ethnic food", OP? Really? WTF is wrong with your racist ass?

I call it ethnic food, and I'm a Korean American. Korean is ethnic food in the US. Anything not American or British/Irish is basically "ethnic" food in the US.

OP, you do need to narrow it down.

c'mon, OP can do better than Peter Chang, but OP needs to narrow it down a bit.

When I was searching for a nice restaurant for our anniversary dinner, I went onto yelp and filtered by $$$$, then went from there.
