Now you're crying because you have to wait a year. It took about the same the last time.

That’s false. Last time we basically got the announcement at the beginning of 2016 - and it went to BY in the fall of 2016. We still had one lame duck sprint season. This time it will be 3 lame duck seasons. It’s dumb.

No, it will not be lame duck seasons. Otherwise ECNL directors of each club will already get clear memo. Hopefully next week ECNL will release it. I bet they will make the current 2 trapped players for 8th grader to all age groups.

I don’t think this is a good idea. I would like to see more than two…like 4 to 5 if you have them but at that point might as well go all the way. 2 is just the current rule for trapped and most don’t use it. Just switch now, ECNL was ready to do it anyway so just implement it now and have all team play up in league play.

I don’t think you understand how blindsided the clubs were this Fall and Winter.

ECNL may have been ready, but the clubs were not.

Move the 2 trapped players down within the club is really not a big deal. Our club shuffles 2/3 NL/RL players for each game.

We will get ECNL plan towards the end of the spring season. I don’t think they are planning on changing the rules if the plan comes out after the tryout window.

ECNL does NOT care about trapped players, they got their way and will get SY in 26. They will play nice with US soccer until then.

Guessing and rostering are two different things. And you know that.

Also, the quality delta between NL and RL is fairly big - your RL guest is more likely there for subbing / rest. And your NL guest is more likely there as a ringer, RTP reps, or to sharpen something specific from their IDP. Sort of silly that you’d even belch out that as an example of “how easy it is” for clubs to adjust a 3rd of their rosters.

ECNL and leagues might not explicitly change the registration rules. but changes are definitely happening at the individual club level. Stronger teams for year X are already playing up and now they can become even stronger by recruiting the best q4 kids born in year X - 1.

I don't think ECNL clubs will play up, but they will replace Q1/Q2 bench with Q3/Q4 for sure. It is their chance to lock in as many Q3/Q4 as possible.

So even the official transition is 2026. Smart parents and clubs will not just sit still and do nothing. The next tryout season would be a lot of fun

More like Sept/Q4 get an opportunity and certainly could have an edge but what happens next is determined on the field and at practice and what the parents do in response. Birth month, especially the older you go, is less relevant. It's more about the players at that point.

It's really unclear at this point. No one has made any official announcements beyond 9/1 for US Club, USYS, and AYSO for fall 26. But the last time they switched some went ahead right away in various ways. Likely will happen again.

It’s pretty clear. No changes until 26/27. I’m
Not saying I agree with it. I don’t.

No official changes. But there will be some in-house changes at the club level IMO.

Also believe there’s going to be some wiggle room with the cutoff to align SY. People against the Aug kid conundrum have said they should be allowed with their correct SY team for showcases only but not for league play. That admits the problem without offering a real solution. I guess it’s out of fear that an Aug kid might take Johnny’s spot? But I thought RAE wasn’t real and if your kid is good then they will make the team?

Question:

With MLS Competition Tier being announced, are we thinking that's equivalent to ECNL-RL? So MLSNext = ECNL, and MLSNext Tier II = ECNL-RL? Roughly?

For MLSNext Tier II, is it accurate to say that a Club will only have ONE team (per age group & gender) in that Competition tier (i.e. their best team in that age group) while their 2nd, 3rd, 4th ranked teams in that age/gender will still play in NCLS (for those teams in the DC area)?

Yes, I agree, that description matches approximately our club situation (Wisconsin area)

1st team -> MLS Next Tier II
2nd team -> ECNL-R
3rd, 4th, etc -> NPL and others.

I think for players that have aspirations to play professionally, MLSN II would be the best option, other than MLSN. I believe the pyramid on the boys side will go something like MLSN I, MLSN II, ECNL, ECNL-RL, and so on and so forth.

I think it's actually very local. In Texas for example, all the best teams besides the MLS Academy teams, are ECNL for boys. MLS Next pay to play teams are a joke compared to boys ECNL. Even FC Dallas plays their second team in ECNL.
