A Christmas Story Christmas

Released on HBOmax yesterday. Great sequel, and definitely one of the best I’ve seen after a long gap (39 years). Love that they had members of the original cast and incorporated some of the original themes and elements. Relatable to any of us who have had to return to our hometown against our own desire.

So good to hear!!

The original was a staple in my family and we carried on the tradition with our kids---watching every Xmas season. It is on our list for next month.

It came out in the 80s when I was in my teens and I loved my parents reminiscing about the 50s and some of their own stories, and the truth about some of it. I related to the window displays and mail order catalogs of toys that were abundant in the 70s. I remember circling the things I wanted.

It was (and is) a family classic. And the my sons and husband looked like Ralphie when they were little.

My dad has since passed away, but was a huge Xmas fanatic. I get nostalgic every time we watch it.

My parents got so annoyed that we actually watched the 24-hour marathons. It was tradition! Always on in the background. I’m getting a month of HBO Max just for this.

We would watch them too, weren't they on A&E or TNT for 24 hours on Thanksgiving? The best!

I love that movie so much! My mom liked Jean Shepherd's books when I was a kid (Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories is still a favorite for both of us) and the movie is fantastic.

DH is European and on our first Christmas together back to visit my family I turned TBS on in our hotel and they were running their A Christmas Story marathon. He was absolutely enthralled. I'll never forget during the scene when Peter Billingsley is talking to Santa Claus and climbs frantically back up the slide to say he wants the Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, DH randomly burst out, "that kid's the best actor I've ever seen." 😂 Can't wait to see the sequel and am glad it's getting good reviews!

I was born in 1983 so I think I was too young for it. I love Christmas movies but somehow never saw this one.

My parents love the original, but I really hate it. I've never understood why the father was 150 years old and the mother was 30. Having said that, I know a lot of people love the original so I'm glad the sequel is done well.

We play the marathon on Christmas Day! We’ve seen it so many times you can just always jump in wherever .

This sequel blows! We were all looking forward to it for family movie night. What a letdown.
