https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nVWshMl49zOVCtfojpYYGGmNjpe_TvSNKN7UOEXc1X8/edit#gid=238607640 After going through the Club Volleyball tryout process this year with U13 and U15 daughters, I am shocked by how challenging this is, particularly for U15. 2026 was was a huge birth year, also influx of players who started in HS. Both my girls have played club for multiple years and made their teams. But many of their friends (& parents) are feeling panicked about getting shut out. While there may not be a spot for every single player -- there are a lot of teams and spots for U15 as multiple clubs have added 15s and 16s teams in recent weeks due to increased demand in the upper age groups. Please don't give up yet! Yes, the big brand-name club rosters were full before tryouts. Yes, most Open/National level teams at all clubs are also full at this point. But there are many solid clubs in this area with coaches who can help players develop skills and enjoy the experience. DCUM conversations tend to hyper-focus on the big-brand clubs with the highest national ranks and best college outcomes. But that's not even what most HS players want or need. Players need coaching and time on the court to improve their game. Ex. SUNDAY 11/13 Afternoon 15s Tryouts: BRYC 12:00 pm DYS 1230 ECP 2:00 pm Loudon 430 Manassas 1:00 pm Metro Regional (variable see their page) Monument 615 pm X Factor 130 pm Best of luck to everyone! |
| Thanks for posting news we can actually use, that is really helpful! |
| Thank you! |
| Yes but this is after these clubs have had prior tryout sessions with 40+ each day for the past two days except for BRYC. |
And...? The point is the rosters aren't all set yet, and there are still tryouts. It's pretty clear from the #s that many girls will be left out, but the fact that there are still tryouts is something to take advantage of, and also a chance to ask about more options if your child doesn't make a club team. Are you saying it's not worth it to go at all? That may be your calculation, but it's still important to get the info out there for those who think it is worth it. |
| I’m saying I know personally of spots offered to kids right after tryouts and make no mistake that these clubs are a BUSINESS. Tryout registration is $50 or $40 per player. The more people that try out the more revenue it generates even if the club knows that a lot of the returning players plus a couple more will be the ones on the roster this year. I’m not saying don’t try-I’m saying be aware and set expectations accordingly. |
+1000 OP here. I'm not a coach/director or anyone who benefits financially from tryouts. If your U15 daughter has played club before or is 5'10 or taller, she likely already has a spot (so congrats). For everyone else, if your daughter can overhead serve and pass a ball, I say go back today, be loud (call the ball, call the freeballs), keep fighting for a spot if that's what you want! |
Yeah, my girl was one who was offered a spot after tryouts twice this last round (for regional, not travel). But you know what else? She was new to these teams. So she showed up and it worked out. I know we were very lucky, but my point is that even if the clubs have penciled in who their rosters are already and are going for the money grab with tryouts, do you really think if they see someone in tryouts that they think they need on their team they're going to NOT offer it to them? They are keeping a few spots flexible just in case. You just never know is the point. So point taken that it is a business, but also because it's a business it's highly unlikely they are holding tryouts with EVERY SINGLE SPOT on each team already with offers made. They keep their options open at least a bit. |
| Thank you! My new to volleyball DD U14 kids made one of these teams today! She is over the moon excited just to play! |
Fantastic, congrats to you & your new club player!! And thanks to OP, again, when DCUM turns out real "news you can use", it's a beautiful thing! |
| Monument have offers last night, they posted bib numbers of offers and call backs. Apparently the new 15u coach offered 1 returning player a spot, she cut all the others (not even cal backs). This isn’t a top tier club. |
Last night’s 6:15pm Monument U15 tryout was a mob scene. So many girls they had to add on another court bc girls were hitting each other during warm ups, and numbers went beyond 114. Never seen anything like it. GLTA trying to get a placement. My girl played well but so clearly was lost in the huge crowd. |
What is GLTA? |
| Good Luck to All. For those that did not make a club team, what is your plan B? |
That’s crazy. Monument has posted their 15U selections Saturday night. 11 spots and 8 alternates. I am sure that not all offers accepted but they had a decent amount of girls at their tryouts. Having that many girls at make up tryouts was unfair to the girls. Sounds like it was just for money and that they would only have 1 spot up for grabs. |
