I met a guy while I was out with friends this past weekend. A few phone calls and text messages later and he’s already started with pet names (e.g., sweetie, babe, boo, etc). It annoys me because it feels like he's trying too hard too soon. Plus I'm admittedly not the pet name type. We are arranging our first date. Would you consider this a red flag or just an annoying personality trait? |
It’s always too soon. The answer is never. Never call me sweetie. |
Babe is the worst. |
Husband of 18 years started calling me by my pet name probably two months into dating and it’s stuck. I love it. |
My husband of 25 years doesn't use any.
My colleague of 5 years calls me Sunshine. My best friend of 10 years calls me Lady. My best friend of 30 years just calls me by my name. Totally depends. If you don't like it, say something. |
I will never understand DCUM's hatred of "babe." |
Women complain that men don't express intimacy enough. Yet, when they try in some very minor fashion, such as using a pet name, it is deemed offensive. So the man is actually trained by his partner to be emotionally repressed. And then 20 years later they wonder where things went.off the rails

He's juggling/dating lots of women so he uses pet names. |
Man here. Can confirm. You never call her by some other girl's name if you call all the women you date sugar or sweetie. |
Hi Schmoopy! |
It’s awful. And I love pet names. Just not that one. |
|
To me, "Babe" is that pig from the kid's movie. |
Are you sure he remembers your name? |
He called my dog pet names before he called me one. |
