Can students get excused day off for mental health?

Anonymous
DC (in HS) (who rarely takes days off) is really stressed out now and I am wondering if students in MCPS can take a day off for mental health? I am looking at JEA-RA, and section III.A.3.b seems to imply that students can:

"MCPS recognizes that students require physical, emotional, and psychological well-being in order to participate effectively in instruction. Schools will excuse student absences due to illness or absences needed for the student to engage in activities that support their physical or psychological well-being."

But I am not sure since section 1 right below (III.A.3.b.1) says:

"Well-being activities that constitute lawful absences under this regulation are defined as programs or techniques that support positive physical and/or mental health so that a student may return to and access instruction."

So, where are these "programs or techniques that support positive physical and/or mental health" defined?

Thanks a lot for any pointers!

Yes, just call it in as a sick day. No questions asked.

DS wanted to do that when he submits his Early Action apps tomorrow, but his math teacher scheduled a quiz he doesn't want to retake later...

Sigh.

It’s public school. Nobody cares about attendance.

Your DS needs a mental health day for submitting college apps?

Ok, then.

I'm all for this. A good friend told me she allows this for her high schooler but limits the mental health days to 2 a semester or another number. It helps to keep days off to a minimum and helps them be responsible about when they really need a day off versus when they really want one. She told me her kids have been very good about following the rules and some semesters they take no mental health days but others they may use both to catch up on sleep or to decompress. It's something I'm hoping to implement with our children as they get older.

Or a religious holiday if your religion includes mental health

"has a headache"

learn to use sick days rarely, but strategically

you just say your kid is not well enough to attend school today- no need to specify!

I'm fine with a mental health day (and would call my kid in sick) and I would also call my kid in sick tomorrow if he doesn't finish his applications - unless you have a senior, you don't understand the stress.
