I just finished a container of the Girl Scout Salsa Train Mix and LOVED the seasoning blend they used. I'm trying to figure out what I could use as a good substitute. I'm thinking maybe Flavor God's "Taco Tuesday"? But for me taco seasoning isn't the same as salsa...
And searching for salsa seasoning doesn't yield what I want lol. Maybe powdered tomato as a base and then try out combinations of add ins? |
| This sounds disgusting. I have never seen salsa flavored seasoning or even powdered tomato. I don’t think you can replicate this. Leave it to the processing factory |
| Did it have a tomato taste or just the spices/seasoning of salsa? Often grocery stores sell dry spice mixes for salsa in the produce section. It is often on a little green & white rack with guacamole mix, banana smoothie blend, orange shake and such. |
| Omg. Salsa and guacamole do not have “mixes”! Disgusting. |
| If you google Girl Scout Salsa Trail Mix, and then go to images, you can see the ingredient list. |

OP Here:
10:46 - A lot of people add tomato powder to store bought tomatoes to make them taste better, flavor boost in soups, stews or chili, etc. Lovely can do attitude you've got there! 11:04 - It definitely tasted like salsa. Looking at the ingredients tomato powder is an ingredient, but I suspect it also has the basic seasonings in salsa (onion/garlic powder, paprika, cumin, etc). 11:16 - With you there! 12:17 - Smart, however they do list "Natural Flavorings, Herb and Spices" which is very non-specific. 12:21 - Thanks for the suggestion! This will very much be a trial and error lol, but I cook with all these spices almost daily so at least I don't have to buy anything new. |
No they don't. I have never seen powdered tomato at regular grocery stores. Perhaps you can order it off Amazon, or a international foods store... But if you have to source multiple ingredients from the internet and be running to speciality stores for ingredients, is it really worth it? For trail mix? |
| Get some lime salt like twangerz or a nice brand version. I suspect those were the flavors you are wanting to chase more than the tomato |
OP Here - I don't have to source them. The only thing I was contemplating sourcing is the Flavor God seasoning. I do have a wide variety of seasonings on hand including powdered tomato, which I did get from my local grocery store. |
OP Here - Oh good call! |
