Assuming they don’t have to care for another child. What do you think is a reasonable expectation? |
Primarily, that’s her break. She eats her lunch, uses her phone, often chats on the phone. She also usually straightens up a bit, cleans up after the kids lunch, and preps the post-nap snack, but all together thanks probably only 20 mins of tasks. Our oldest sleeps 1:45 until 3-3:30 (younger sleeps longer, overlapping). So most days she’s got a solid hour to herself (and when our kids were younger, it was even longer, prob more like a guaranteed 1.5 hrs).
The thing is - every once and a while, he doesn’t nap, or only naps for 45 mins, in which case she gets basically NO break. I’m not going to begrudge her a longer break when she can get one! I will say most nannies do the kids laundry (I prefer to do it myself) but that can’t be more than a load or two a week. Beyond that, I wouldn’t ask her to do anything else! |
She takes a break. |
I do nothing. That’s my lunch/break time. I clean up as I go and it takes 2 minutes to throw in laundry Friday morning. You seem like the type that wants her up doing chores to get every penny worth and i fee sorry for your nanny |
Eats her lunch, goes to the bathroom, takes a break.
That's in line with our expectations. |
I ever asked as long as things were going fine. |
Never* |
She chills. Eats, plays on her phone, watches tv. Taking care of small children is mentally and physically exhausting and she needs a break to be an excellent caregiver. |
When I had one she took a lunch break or would pick up my groceries (when we were doing curbside pickup during lockdown) or do laundry. She volunteered for the chore stuff, I would never have asked.
I do think nannies with WFH bosses prob feel pressured not to take a real break. |
Tidy up toys, do laundry, clean up from meals, prep future meals, eat, play with dog, look up fun stuff to do with child around our city, go through toys and pull out broken ones or ones missing pieces or ones child has grown out of, same with books, same with clothes. |
My reasonable expectation is that the nanny gets a break from work during that time. |
Yikes |
Plays on her phone. Don't expect her to more |
Vacuum, laundry, clean up the kitchen, dishes, clean toys, arrange toy-room, mop, dust, change sheets, clean the dishes of the pets, feed the pets, water indoor plants, get mail in, prep meals (chop onions, peel and grate ginger, chop cauliflower, etc)., wipe counters, wipe handprints from doors, windows and walls, clean furniture, wash the high feeding chair.
She is charging by the hour. |
naptime = break time |
