Bloomberg had this guy on saying this with alarming confidence. To be honest it sounds really possible with the new the Chinese dictator consolidating power, and we will likely be in midst of post election chaos in the States. Europe will be ravaged by recession and 2 years of no gas from Russia… China will be ascendant.
What should America do? Will it be WWIII? |
| Send drones |

China ascendant?
War in Taiwan might be a good way to distract from civil unrest and potential upheaval after brutal years of zero covid. So it's possible. But the example of Ukraine, the Russian disaster in Ukraine, is right there for the world to see. And China is seeing it. |
| We should do nothing. Make a deal with China, give them Taiwan and get something we want. |
Why would we do that? Have you ever heard of TSMC? |
| Overwhelming force from 7th fleet. Chinese loses so large and embarrassing leads to revolt in China and overthrow of red Chinese |
So assuming no Nuclear exchange? |
Well they have already seeded a cyber attack with Tik Tok; this would be a new kind of war. |
|
It would make sense.
Russia sucks a lot of western munitions up in Ukraine. North Korea and south fired warning shots at each other today. Start a fight in Korea and go for Taiwan. America would need every resource to put up a fight in South China Sea (it is really far) and would have to choose between Korea or Taiwan. |
Nah, China relies on the Malacca Strait for over 70+% of its entire energy supply. It woul get immediately blockaded by multiple countries. Kinda hard to run a massive naval war that'd make DDay look like the boy scouts without oil. China isn't dumb and knows its vulnerabilities. The US has tons of access via Guam, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. |
It would have made sense if Russia's 3-day surgical plan had worked in Ukraine. It didn't, and now China can see what would happen if they tried something similar. |
| People don’t realize how important TSMC is to the world. TSMC is more important than oil. It is one of the few places where you can produce modern chips. There is no place in America that can do that. TSMC has the world's most complex Fab. It takes billions and decades to make. If china takes Taiwan, say goodbye to your iPad. We allowed this to happen. We were afraid when Iraq invaded Kuwait because Iraq would have managed most of the world's oil supply. Taiwan supplies the chips that allow the F22 and most of our military to work. Do your own research. |
| PP, china is a net energy importer. We would need the gulf states to stop shipments of energy to china…..today we have not been able to do that against Russia. I’m not a war hawk, in fact, the world today scars me….but losing tawain will set us back more than people realize. The good news is the govt has realized what the private market has not…sometimes is ok to pay more if your way of life depends on something. |
+1 China is facing an internal crisis that could cause its collapse in some form in the not too distant future. Covid-zero, economic woes, and more significantly, demographics, are all major issues that do not bode well for the future. Xi could absolutely do something rash to stoke some good old nationalistic sentiment, but China’s days as any kind of superpower are numbered. |
| Aren't we in part investing heavily in chip manufacturing facilities in the US to buffer our economy if Taiwan ultimately falls? |
