| A quick question for people who have been to the new Wegmans in City Ridge: what's the best way to get into the store when walking north on Wisconsin (from the Woodley Park / Cleveland Park area)? Walking around to the main entrance on the back seems quite roundabout, either via Ridge Square or the McLean Gardens connection. Is there another public entrance that's more convenient to Wisconsin, like cutting through the old Fannie Mae building? Thanks! |
No, there is no other entrance except through the parking garage, but that's not walker friendly. |
Yikes. This is a pretty big design miss, right? I can't think of another grocery store where there's a nearly five minute walk after you get to the retail complex, because you have to go all the way around the back. |
|
? Just turn left off of Wisconsin and turn left again to enter from the street. Just north of Old Fannie Mae bldg.

OP's point is that walking past Fannie Mae, taking a left, then taking a left again to loop around is pretty indirect and adds nearly five minutes to the walk. That's entirely true, and it would be a real pain for people coming up from Cleveland, Woodley, or other neighborhoods south. I've been assuming that the Fannie Mae lobby will be open to the public as a passthrough since it's supposed to be retail or commercial space. I don't know, because I haven't been in that part of City Ridge. Taco Bamba is going to have the exact same problem when it opens on the southeast corner of City Ridge. They can't expect people to walk all the way around Fannie Mae for eating and shopping. While we're talking about minutes, each counts in urban planning. |
| Is there even a map of City Ridge somewhere? It shows up on Google Maps, obviously, but you can't tell which parts are public and which parts aren't. |
| This is legitimately a reason I don’t go there. I’m equidistant from giant and wegmans. The latter is a PITA to get into so I just don’t go. |
| Oh man, we’re moving to Woodley Park near Wisconsin Ave, and it would be such a bummer if walking up to Wegmans meant having to go the long way around. I guess we’d just go to the Giant too. Like PP, I assumed there had to be an entrance on Wisconsin. Anyone know City Ridge well enough to definitively say? |
| You can use a map app for this. Will tell you the best route to walk there. |
| Looking at a map, perhaps can turn left on Rodman? And around that way? Without having to go past Wegmans and back down. |
| I Lidl is going in next door and will be easier to walk to |
|
So those of you would rave about walkability don't want to walk a little extra? Got it.
|
Well, it is five whole minutes! |
This is the best news I have heard all day! I LOVE LIDL!! That Wegmans sucks. |
| You can't get in to Giant from Wisconsin either and the walk to the side entrance into wegmans is not 5 minutes longer. To each his own re: where you like to grocery shop but at least don't make things up - it would take just as long to cross the lawn, go up into the fannie building and then down again into Wegmans which is on the same level as Wisconsin. I thought the produce and fruit was great in the new Wegmans, much better cheese selection than Giant and excellent bakery. There are still a few brands that Giant carries that Wegmans doesn't have so we are shopping @ both |
