Go ask your candidates what are their plans to make DC safer? If they want to decriminalize everything, they are not the right candidates for ANY race.

Not keeping your kids in homes, schools and in productive activities should be criminalized and both parents and schools should be held accountable. Our youth deserves a chance, give them growth mindset not victim mentality. Everyone above 13 should be in a sport, activity, internship or job after school. Don't let them waste but build their future. Any drug or crime should lead to penalty of taking extra courses and doing extra community hours.

I mean, the general election in DC, beyond the tipped wage initiative and the At-large race, is pointless.

Here's what the At-large candidates said on the subject of crime:

It's not very inspiring.

The real DC issue this election is politicians’ position on Roe v. Wade in D.C.

Oh wow you are never going to accomplish this. I mean even parents who have their kids in sports and activities are not going to sign off on a law that REQUIRES them to do it, that's not reasonable.

I do think much tougher enforcement for school truancy is needed. There are kids who go to a school once or twice a week starting in kindergarten. I know schools do outreach and CPS gets involved, but it's not cutting it. How about we make sure kids actually go to school before we start forcing them to work or do activities after school.

I just voted in DC and 90% of the candidates are all repeats. We need term limits. I can't beleive that in a city with this many smart, educated people, the same 8 people run every single time. Or else the alternatives are total nut jobs (Chris Otten)

Whjy cant parent be held accountable for crimes committed by their kids? They have legal rights to everything else related to their kids?

Many of you sadly mistake what happens in your UMC school east of the park and what happens in schools all over the city.

Kids are tired of being parked in front of iPads and screens and being "monitored" by uncaring adults that claim to be teachers.

If I were a kid, I could see why some opt out.

Please, please, please do not elect all Democrats again. Can we at least have a conversation about these issues.

Usually Dad is in jail , deadbeat, or otherwise not in the picture. Mom has her own issues- mentally , pre occupied, checked out, never home, etc.

These are highly dysfunctional, no positive role model, really sad families . These kids' formative years were not with people who win parent of the year awards.

Hence the allure of gangs. As notorious as they are, terns and young people get sucked into them bc at least with a gang you feel like you're part of something, you get attention, there's respect, etc...you know, all the things missing from a family.

Well, if kids are in school for most waking hours, there is an escape and an opportunity, for children and parents both.

Would it help to take such families out of this environment and help them settle in rural areas, where a new lifestyle can break old habits?

It doesn't matter democrats or republicans or independents , we need to elect people who care, want change and have sensible solutions.

Just keep giving freebies and decriminalizing crime is not care, its pity. Same way over-criminalizing underprivileged and denying resources isn't care, its punishment. It doesn't lift people up, it enables them to stay in destructive cycles and it makes everyone else want to leave and seek refuge in suburbs. It doesn't help anyone and destroys urban areas.

What rights law abiding and tax paying residents have? Do they not have the right to live in a clean, safe and healthy city? Do they need to put up, shut up or leave?
