| He is a well respected coach who has been on the scene a long time. Maybe there just are not enough people willing to put up with crazy parents. These schools are not getting multiple applications for open jobs. |

It is impossible for schools to find coaches. Mainly because parents, like 99% of you on this board, are what keep people from wanting to get involved. Until you take a check and let coaches actually coach, all sports will decline. For the record, these are schools in Loudoun and Fairfax that need head varsity girls lax coaches. This is terrible for the sport, for our kids, and for our area as a whole! Until parents realize THEY are the problem stopping great coaches from coming forward, our kids will be the ones who will be hurt.

The "pay" for this job is pennies. I coached a different sport for FCPS one season, and it ended up being less than $2/hour for the amount of work it was. It is essentially a volunteer position (and during normal business hours so a typical 9-5 worker can't even volunteer for it). |

Actually, not true about a 9-5 worker can't volunteer. Practices aren't till after school hours, can start based on coach's schedule, a 6:00 practice or even 7. There are quite a few coaches that aren't a part of the school system. The pay is correct, you've got about a $4-6k stipend for the entire coaching staff, normally 4 coaches for varsity and JV. Coaches aren't out there for the pay. |
