| I have noticed many mid-end chocolates (Lindt, Godiva) tasting worse as they enter the mad market. I have also noticed quality changes in Hershey and Kit Kat bars. The full-size multipack at Costco was on sale so bought a couple boxes. Had a snickers and the peanut m&ms and they tasted awful. Waxy and artificial. My 2 favorites. My daughter also had a snickers and she agreed. I like higher quality chocolates, but sometimes just want an old favorite. A warning in case you go they the candy section at Costco. |
| Those crappy quality chocolates and candies have tasted off for years. I haven't touched those or given them to my kids for at five years. Only high quality chocolate for us. |
| I bought a multipack of the mini snickers and they were gross. The chocolate was cracking and falling off the peace |

I have a huge sweet tooth and love peanut m&m's and Kit Kats.
I too have noticed that they no longer taste very good. |
| The price of cocoa went up several years ago and they started using a lot more wax in their chocolates. I don't think they ever went back. Also, a lot of things absorb the disgusting odor of Target, Costco, etc. Nasty to eat. |
| Costco has a generous return policy. Take them back. |
| Haven't noticed an issue with peanut m&Ms, but Kit Kats are just not good now. They taste like generic Dollar Tree chocolate. |
| American chocolate is gross. |
| I noticed it with the Halloween candy last year. The chocolate is really sweet but also flavorless. |
|
I assumed it always tasted bad and I just hadn’t noticed before I started eating better quality chocolate.
But maybe they’ve changed the recipe or quality of the ingredients. It does taste like wax. My kids get it at Halloween but we’ve never bought it for them, and it’s not what we’re giving out this year. |
| What is considered a better tasting, yet affordable, chocolate then? |

Where are those candies being made? Some years ago Hershey off shored a bunch of production to Mexico and South America but then discovered it affected quality to ship so far and brought a lot of it back to PA. My memory was that was the core Hershey bar. It’s really hard to figure out what is made where. I think kisses are still in PA and last time I was there I think the shuttle bus driver told me rolos and reeeses as well. The different sizes might also be made in different facilities. I bet they do need to add more stabilizer for the candy that is being shipped from abroad.
I bet mars (which makes snickers and m and m) has offshored all of it). That company is notoriously anti worker. |
| After eating the good stuff (high percent cocoa, few ingredients), the drugstore chocolate with lots of artificial ingredients tastes gross. Happen to me 15 years ago. |
Not sure why, but the “only high quality chocolate” people always make me laugh. |
+1 Chocolate quality has been all over the board lately and paying top dollar is no guarantee of quality. Does anyone remember Mast Brothers Chocolate? It had so much buzz and people swore it was so good. The packaging was amazing but the chocolate was grainy and bitter and thin flavored. And it was expensive. I miss when most chocolate tasted decent. Finding a sweet treat worth the calories shouldn’t be a lift. I like Little Secrets chocolate but it’s not available everywhere. |
