I'm looking for popular costumes for 4 year old girls. I've got a non-verbal 4 year old, who typically likes to do what the other kids are doing, but I have to give her choices (because she can't brainstorm verbally). For some reason, I just can't guess what she'll think is cool this year.
(To complicate matters more, it has to work in a wheelchair, which rules out bird and butterfly costumes, which I know she would like.) |
| Can’t you take her to the store and have her pick one out that she likes? |
| At that age, they want to be a princess. Or a fairy. |
+1. OP it sounds like she is overwhelmed by the question. At 4, she may not yet have a firm grasp on the concept of Halloween, or costumes, or how you figure out what you want to be. Don't ask her. Show her some possibilities and see what she likes. |

OP here. Thanks for the conversation so far. A little more background just so this thread doesn't get derailed with the "go to the store" suggestion. My kid does not walk, talk, or have functional use of her hands. She communicates with eye pointing either with tangible objects or her AAC device. We could maybe make a trip to the store work, but I can say from experience that my best option is going to be to give her 6 or so options on her AAC device and let her choose one. So I'm just crowd sourcing to figure out what the most popular 6 or so options will be.
I can definitely include princess, so I just need 5 more... |
Yes my daughter didn’t get it at her age and my son who is just 4 also doesn’t. I showed them pics! |
| What about Elsa or Anna? Maribel from Encanto? |
| Princess Tiana. Friend costumes that I know about so far: Pikachu, "superhero" (not branded), and mermaid. |
Disney has accessible costumes now - I would scroll through those and pick 6 for her to choose among. |
| Unicorn, mermaid, witch |
| I think princess or fairy is a good choice and if the goal is to fit in or be like other kids, doing a costume from a movie or TV show like Frozen or one of the Marvel or DC comics and movies is very popular. The kids in my child’s preschool last year dressed as Elsa, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Spider-Man, etc. my DD dressed as a unicorn which was also perfectly fine. This year she is 5 and going as princess. |

Here’s some wheelchair accessible options.

| Paw patrol characters seem to be popular this year, along with Wonder Woman, princesses and Disney Characters. |
| A window. Where this child comes up with these ideas, no idea. |
| A cat! She's obsessed. |
