| How many people got the letter saying their child is a good candidate for this program? It wasn’t on our radar screen but the letter seemed somewhat personalized citing MAP scores that aren’t yet released, so I may at least look into it. Any feedback on the program and the school? |
| My kid's in a middle school magnet and said the whole magnet got the letter. |
| Read more closely: the MAP scores mentioned were from 7th grade, right? |
Nope, definitely not. Mine cited MAP R only (MAP M is actually higher). And definitely from 8th grade. |
My kid is also in a middle school magnet and he would never make such a claim which he clearly would never be able to make accurately as there is absolutely no way of knowing how something like that could be true. Are you the same poster who regularly makes claims about what “all” the magnet kids are doing? Big eye roll, everyone one of them. |
| OP here, just realized this is a lottery program not criteria. |
| We got it to. Its an lottery then application program, not just lottery. I emailed the coordinator and never heard back. |
What does it mean to be lottery then application? |
| My non magnet kid got it. |
Mine too. |
Just to clarify, the letter says it’s 7th grade MAP but the score included is not from 7th grade, it’s from 8th grade. |
| What I'm unclear on is whether I would need to rank Northwood in my DCC process, or whether I could continue to rank our homeschool first and apply for the middle college program. |
I don't get what's really going on but those I spoke to didn't recommend it so we aren't doing it. My understanding is you have to apply or lottery/apply and be accepted. I didn't fully read the letter and didn't keep it. |
Yes. You’re right. I should absolutely ground my child this weekend for using such a casual generalization based on his friend group. And no, I have no idea what magnet kids are doing. Curious: did your kid get the letter? |
Yes |
