How to make a home gym energized and welcoming? more inside

Anonymous
I’m turning my ensuite office into a small gym for yoga practice, Peloton workouts, and weights. Currently the room is grey with older oak wood floors, French doors, and one totally clear wall (no doors or windows). It’s a small space but big enough for my needs.

I can’t explain it, but the room is just blah. I’ve looked on Pinterest and Houzz with no luck. Most home gyms are blah with the exception of luxuriously large fitness rooms.

Any suggestions for lighting, artwork, textiles, particular plants, small chair or furniture piece? I want it clean and zen, but also energized if that makes sense. I plan to put an oversized mat over the hardwoods and have a large framed mirror on the wall next to the window. The blank wall will be behind my bike so I’m not looking at it.

Any talented designers want to chime in with some ideas?

Have you considered something like Philips Hue lighting? You can keep them off for when the gym is not in use and you want it clean and zen, but turn them on and change colors depending on your mood. That may be too low class for DCUM tastes though. https://www.philips-hue.com/en-us/products/smart-light-strips

I really liked Orlando Soria’s home gym: https://stylebyemilyhenderson.com/blog/home-gym-essentials

Do a mural wallpaper wall on the empty wall.

Lighting is important. Bright, clean. There are a lot of different directions you could go.

Minimal and monotone. Zen.

Bright colors and energetic.

I actually prefer my home gym to be cozy.

Depends on the vibe you’re going for. My friends peloton room is painted orange and she has posters of athletic greats. My yoga room I have some crystals, a rock lamp, and some wall hangings I bought from a mystical store.

I guess I’m going for Zen, but with some energy. I don’t want to walk in the space and want to crawl back into bed.

Paint it a color that’s not gray. That will go a long way

Mirrors, plants or at least a fresh fruit bowl, roll your towels

I would paint the walls a different color to brighten it up. Also add plants. I bought a huge snake plant with a nice planter to put in a corner and another smaller plant for this shelf where we store weights. I also have a peloton - the tread - and I love the design of their weights. I replaced all of my weights with theirs and it looks so nice - plus I like the feel of their handles. Also a flat screen is nice if you do mat classes.
