I was all set to give it a go, as I’m thinning just above my forehead. But then I started reading about women growing hair on their foreheads?!
I know there are several here who use it… please share whatever you can to help me do this wisely. What brand, serum or foam, how often, how you apply, time of day, etc. What else to consider? Thank you! |
| I just recently started, so can't claim too much experience, but I will say the foam is easier to control where you put it. I've tried both. I feel like the liquid is easier for covering a bigger area, but the foam is better for precision. I've had the liquid drip down my forehead/face despite efforts to prevent it. On the foam - my other advice would be to make sure your hands/fingers are cool before using it - the foam starts turning to liquid pretty quickly, much more so if your hands are even a little warm. The directions mention washing your hands in cold water before using it - that is why. (Also important to wash your hands again after of course!) |

I get the Kirkland brand off Amazon and put it in a 2oz bottle (links below). I first saturate a cotton swab with it and swipe it over my eyebrows (haven't had as much regrowth with my eyebrows but they have filled in a bit and definitely haven't lost any more hair). I then squeeze some on each widow's peak and use the same cotton swab to ensure total coverage of the sparse areas. I squeeze some along my hairline and then just start swiping it through my hair like I was trying to part my hair. I do it about every half inch.
If any of it dripples down my face, I either catch it with the cotton swab or get a tissue and wipe it off. Been doing it about 10 months now and haven't gotten any growth where I haven't wanted it. I've only gotten hair growth where there was hair before. I started noticing results after a couple of months. It absolutely has worked for me. When I pull my hair into a ponytail, I can absolutely feel the difference. There's a lot more hair! FWIW - I'm in my mid-50s. | I apply the foam to my temples with a makeup brush. |
| Have you asked your doctor for Spironolactone? |

I prefer the liquid and I have used both. I use the dropper then immediately message it into my scalp. I even slightly tilt my head back so if something drips, it’s dripping into my hair, not down my face. I don’t do this out of fear of growing hair on my forehead (I’ve been using it for 1.5 years and if that was going to happen, I’d see it by now). I do it because that stuff is expensive and I don’t want to waste it.
I started with the foam but found it wasteful because so much wound up in my hair. It was also impossible for me to style my hair without washing it first. The liquid just dries. I buy 5% cvs brand, 3 month supply. |
Does this help regrow hair or just stop the thinning? |

Someone should invent a brush that dispenses this. Push a button while brushing your hair and minoxidil comes out.
I am scared to try it because of stories of unwanted hair and other issues. Do people wear gloves when dispensing it? |

I've used both the liquid and the foam. The liquid was hard for me to control because it was so runny and it made my scalp itch terribly. The problem with the foam is that it's hard to apply without getting it all over your hair. It's just not as precise.
Sadly for me, neither version helped me grow hair - which isn't that unusual, but my derm keeps me on it because it helps reduce shedding. I buy it from Costco, but all the drugstores and target have their own version that's cheaper than the Rogaine brand. |
| There’s a pill too now, isn’t there? |
There was an article about using it orally but not many doctors prescribe it this off label way. Don’t know if there are any in this area. |
Both. It can help regrow hair. I have completely bare temples and I’m starting to see a few real hairs coming back after 6 months of spiro. The hair takes years and many growth cycles to miniaturize, so it will take years and many growth cycles for them to become thicker hairs again too. |

I got a little spray bottle from the drug store.
yes it is working. |
| I use the liquid and apply it along the hairline and my part while tilting my head back a little. I haven’t had an issue of it dripping down my face and have not had any unwanted hair growth. |
NP. Maybe I'll try the liquid - I had given the foam a try and it was awful. It made my hair really sticky and gooey. I want something I can apply directly to the scalp without saturating the hair itself. |
