| What are people paying for phase 1 at the orthodontist? Last week I was quoted $4600 for phase 1 which includes 1.5-2 years of visits for my elementary aged daughter, but that’s only for an expander and then retainer. If my child needs braces, she’ll need another phase. Is this the norm in DC/Chevy chase? |
| CCMD - $1800 for phase 1, expander, braces, retainer. Insurance covered half. |
Who did you see? |
| We paid about 5k for phase 1 a few years ago. |
| There is a wide range for orthodontics. I swear the same practice charges different for each patient for the same things. Do not be afraid to go to multiple orthodontists and get multiple opinions. |
| We didn't do two phases. Expander went right into braces. $4800. |
| Just quoted $4200 in Arlington. They didn't saw how long it will take but expander and retainer. Another child only did phase 2, and it was $6,000. |

Based on speaking with friends, it sounds like expanders are more expensive than braces.
We are paying about $3600 for a year of braces. Insurance covered $1500, thankfully. |
What? Are you going to some back alley orthodontist? |
Must be typo. |
| Ours was $1500 but it's just headgear (overbite) not an expander. I like the model of a flat fee for everything including visits and adjustments. |

Phase 1 in Fairfax, $3900. No idea what phase 2 will cost, but probably similar.
The other option for us would be to pull multiple adult teeth when the time comes to make room in DD's mouth. That would only 1 round of braces. But I think we would rather pay and save her teeth. |
| That’s not bad. Who did you see. |
| Our total cost was about $6K over the 1.5 years DS had braces (in Arlington). |
Who quoted you that? |
