Incident at NB yesterday

The rumors among middle schooler's are flying around. What I've been able to confirm is minimal. A child (girl) who does not attend NB was in the school yesterday. There was a confrontation between that student and an NB student and/or an adult realized this kid did not attend the school. The child was non-compliant and was chased into a classroom and ultimately restrained by a security guard. Police were called.

The school communicated a vague outline of the events above but because of what happened the classrooms went on lockdown and it was pretty traumatic. I'm not saying the situation itself was all that traumatic but the kids are so fearful about getting shot at school that lockdowns are traumatizing on their own.

This does not seem like a big deal. Just a regular day at my child's (also UMC) school.

I dont think it is very typical for a kid from one school to trespass onto another school to cause some sort of trouble. Very dangerous implications. Similar situation at CJ last year and it was dealt with well.

It seems very strange for me that a middle schooler is sneaking into another middle school. It sounds like trouble or like they were looking for trouble.

I think that is the case. The kid apparently caused a fight in the hallway and was non compliant with adults.

Did the school put out any sort of message? When this happened at CJ last year the administration was very proactive. They notified parents, had police on the scene and had a school lesson on not allowing outsiders into the school etc.

The principal sent an email after the girl was taken away by police. The communication was timely because rumors where flying. The girl snuck into school by accompanying a friend of her’s. According to my kid, other students and teachers at first assumed that she was a newcomer and shadowing the friend. But then she found the girl she was seeking and fought with her. Then it sounds like the security guard acted quickly and effectively.

This girl seems to now be well known amongst all the middle schools in the area. Wondering what MCPS will do to discipline her. The parents are obviously not able to.

Wasn't there an incident just recently where some W student with a knife showed up at another W's parkinglot?

The police took her from NB at 11:45. It’s possible that her actual school had not yet notified her parents of her absence.

There are so many kids, no one will know if a kid is from another school. These things happen. Kids fight. They're young and stupid.

Yes. But this is unique. A 7th grader skipped school to sneak into a different school that she has never attended to assault another girl. It was a big deal.
