Any recs for Lebanese food? Thanks for your help. I’m finding that most Lebanese restaurants are higher end here (example: Albi) and just looking for a casual spot for some decent shawarma. |
They don’t exist. |
Mama Ayesha’s is good (altho admittedly I haven’t been in a while) but not sure of they have shawarma. |
Lebanese Taverna |
People are snobby about Lebanese Taverna on here, but we like it a lot. Their spinach and lentil soup is incredible. I’ve tried many copycat versions and come close, but nothing touches the original. |
Oh also, Cedars of Lebanon in Greenbelt. |
We are in VA. DH is Lebanese. We go to http://www.medgmarket.com in Springfield/Alexandria for shwarma and mannoosh with the kids.
https://www.mediterraneanbakery.market for fresh bread and take away food. These are both very casual, quick and cheaper eats. We go frequently. |

I do not get why people are snobby about Lebanese Taverna. I've been going there since the 80s. They are a long-standing DC local business that has really invested in the community. Are the cafes a little bit strip-mall in nature? Yes, and it's great that they've made lebanese food convenient and accessible to so many people. I think their stuff is really tasty and so much better than cava for a strip mall option. But go to the original in WP. |
By WP, do you mean Westover? I have never heard it called WP. |
I love this place. Their rice is so fragrant I have to stop myself from planting my face right in the dish. |
Woodley Park. I don't think it's called WP, I was just abbreviating. |
I was confused since Westover is original Lebanese Taverna and thought I had missed something. |

Yep, not sure what the PP is talking about. "In 1979, after having worked in several local restaurants, the family had finally saved enough to purchase a humble corner restaurant in the Westover neighborhood of Arlington. Being practical, they kept the original sign, “Athenian Taverna,” but changed one word, and thus the “Lebanese Taverna” legacy was born" |
