Not-Halloween Halloween celebrations--name your school

Anonymous
Trying to get some data. If your kids' elementary does a "book character day" or fall festival or the like (but specifically NOT "Halloween"), WITH costumes, please name the school. Also, when is the event typically held? Trying to offer solutions and compromises based on what other schools have done.

Our school does a Fall Festival but no costumes allowed. No Book Character Day either.

Fall Festival is held on a Saturday. Not during school.

No mention of Halloween allowed at school. No reading of any books related to Halloween.

Let it go. You can celebrate it all you want outside of school.

Not everybody likes pumpkins. How is this equitable?

They're really into sowing grievance . They think creating a sense of persecution will help their agenda. Fox news does it all the time.

As an independent, I will say that both liberals and conservatives traffic in grievance.

Most of the equity-based arguments on this board (including banning Halloween at schools) is grounded in grievance.

Nah, you’ve got it backwards. In the case of ‘cancelling’ Halloween, it’s the religious crazies (from a variety of religious backgrounds - Christian, Muslim, Jewish) who oppose Halloween. They are the ones sowing grievance and playing the victim because their kids are being ‘left out’.

Interesting that only one school has been named so far.

Schools probably don't want to face off against the crazies whose kids have a grievance against pumpkins.

I think it’s weird that DCUMers fear they will be identified by simply naming the school.

Naming a school puts it on the target list for the religious/equity extremists on this board. It's unconscionable that there be any celebration involving pumpkins.
