If you aren’t washing your walls

Anonymous
You are missing out on an easy opportunity to freshen your home and to ensure that your paint isn’t look dingy. I started a thread last week about paint sheen and someone mentioned cleaning the walls. I honestly had never given it any thought other than wiping prints etc off. I always thought they washing the walls were overkill. Boy was I wrong! I washed the walls today on the first floor (as high as I could reach) with an all purpose cleaner and immediately my house looks, and smells cleaner. I am Type A so I keep my house fairly clean anyway. This was what I was missing for that extra touch. I also cleaned the baseboards as well. Dusting them has nothing on wiping them with a solution. Everything looks pristine and I’m so happy. Now off to do my second floor.
PSA: if you aren’t washing your walls, you should! You will not regret it.

Excuse the typos. Evidently, I am not good at typing while eating. 😁

I am married to a hoarder, so my house is very cluttered, but once I did clean my walls, to welcome a houseguest. It made a difference!

you just wiped them down with a spray cleaner bottle and a paper towel?

Also wondering this? Do the walls need to be a certain kind of paint or can you do it on any?

How do you do this without messing up the paint? Every time I try to wipe a smudge off of mine, I end up with a bigger smudge that doesn't match.

How long did it take you? I have so many dirty walls…

The people I know who do this are professional cleaners. Most people don't have the time or desire.

Use super hot water, a teaspoon of tide power and your mop (rung out well).

I think this depends on your paint, both the quality and the sheen. Is it flat paint?

I used EverSpring All purpose cleaner from Target. I got old pillow cases and a few old t shirts and sprayed and wiped the walls. It worked so well. I am extremely pleased and also mad I didn’t do this earlier.

I have Eggshell paint. I spot cleaned a few fingerprints with the Magic eraser years ago and that was a bad idea.

want to add that if you have pets or small children (under the age of 25 ), from your waist/chest down should be done quarterly or biannually.

I am still working, lol. I will need a ladder for my rooms with high ceilings. So far it’s been about an hour. I saw someone mention a mop. Lol, that would’ve been helpful.
