Incident at Marshall HS

Anonymous
Got this email from the principal about an hour ago. DC is still at school. Does anyone have any information regarding it:

Dear Marshall Families,

We are aware of a video that is circulating on social media showing a student holding what appears to be a gun in one of our restrooms. Please know that our SRO and admin team have taken quick action to investigate. We have identified the student and found that there is no threat to the school. School operations are continuing as normal and I will provide a further update later today.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Litz

I texted with my daughter and mentioned an "email about a video" (didn't mention the weapon part b/c I didn't want to freak her out). She said she hadn't heard anything but then said there was a video from last year going around and it was pretty upsetting. So I'm hoping it's that, but don't like to hear about a gun at school either way.

I just got a follow up to the email. Looks it was not a hoax and a weapon was brought to school:

Dear Marshall Family,

Earlier today, we were made aware of a video showing a student in a bathroom holding what appeared to be a gun. Our School Resource Officer and I took immediate action, located the student, and confiscated a BB gun. Our investigation has found that the student did not intend to cause any harm. However, they are now facing both disciplinary action and criminal charges.

Please know that the safety of our students is our number one priority. We ask you to be our partners in keeping Marshall HS a safe place to learn. Remind your student that any time they have a safety concern, they should speak to a trusted adult, rather than spreading rumors on social media or texts. Monitor your child’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online. The authorities should always be your first step if your child shares a safety concern with you. If your safety concern is an emergency, please call 911. FCPS Office of Safety and Security also has a safety tip line that you can access anonymously online, by text, or by phone.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please reach out to me. I wish you a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Litz

Principal

Kudos to Marshall HS for two prompt, informative e-mails to parents.

Bringing a BB gun to school. That's just embarrassingly stupid.

Sounds like the school administrators did exactly what they were supposed to do.

I hope the student gets expelled

He'll probably get expelled from Marshall and sent to a different HS.

Kudos to Marshall. We’ve been through ES, MS, and HS in this pyramid and are thankful that all schools have great administration.

I wouldn't get carried away. Kilmer has been a mess in terms of administration for most of the last 15 years.

There was something going on at Mclean this afternoon as well. There were emergency personnel at the school. Does anyone know what that was about?

How do? We have been having a great experience at Kilmer. My daughter was set up for success there and my younger daughter is thriving.

Kilmer has churned lousy principals, included two who were either fired or demoted, for years and when they finally had a better one she left after two years. Take your PR elsewhere.

Not PP but how is it PR? My kid is also doing well at Kilmer. Admin has been historically an issue but she has great teachers this year.
