Fall party - thoughts?

Anonymous
In an attempt to know my neighbors, this spring, I hosted an egg hunt. I want to do something similar in fall, but not ON Halloween bc it is such a busy time. I was thinking of doing a "pumpkin hunt" in my yard - maybe I could get some of those mini-pumpkins. Is that terribly lame? Will kids want to hunt for mini pumpkins? Should I just bite the bullet and order some orange plastic eggs from Amazon?

I have a large and nicely landscaped flat front yard. Any suggestions for a "hunt" or fun activity? Kids love the Easter egg hunt; I don't think having crafts etc will have the same oomph. Also, it's quick and easy - they are done hunting in 15 min, they play a bit, and the whole thing wraps up in an hour.

Get the mini pumpkins and have the kids paint them as the activity.

Yep this. My kids love them and my oldest is nearly ten.

I think this is a great idea, pumpkins or mini eggs. Kids 8 and under will love hunting for whatever.

Love the pumpkin hunt and painting activity! What a kind gesture for the neighborhood.

Agreed. There are cute little sticker sets for the younger kids who may not be able to paint.

Or just get markers to not deal with paint. It's messy and then will need to dry.

How many kids?
Our neighborhood has a Halloween parade. All the kids dress in their costume and walk around the block. We do a potluck and people bring treat or crafts and just hang out.

Sounds fun, OP!

We did Easter egg hunts all year round when my kids were little. They loved it. That being said is think it depends on the ages of the kids.

Depends on age of kids. My 5yo would love this. My 10yo would rather hang out with his own friends vs go to random neighbor’s house where kids are not his friends.

The parents in our neighborhood used to get like $20 in nickels and throw them all over the yard then give each kid a Dixie cup to fill with nickels. We thought it was the BEST and loved feeding our piggy banks when we got home. Then my dad would wear a helmet and protective goggles the next time he mowed the lawn LOL

Aw that is cute too. I'd say 10-15 kids, since I would just invite my immediate neighbors to the left, right, and across the street. My neighborhood is on a cul de sac filled with older people...in my mind it would be so cute to do a Halloween parade, but I know the logistics for that would be too much.
