Just thinking that last year my kids their iPad too much at school (at least that's what they said). Wondering what it will be like this year. Has your school adopted any policies on this? |
Which school district? |
APS has kindergarten using DreamBox, Lexia, and Seesaw, so assume 1-2 hrs a day |
So far, my kids' teachers haven't gotten them up and running. It seems like they are both trying to avoid using them beyond the extent that they have to. At my school kids aren't allowed to take iPads home. Thank goodness! |
Oh this is APS. |
APS ES - our kids bring ipads home to charge, but aren't allowed to log into any apps at home. Kind of a waste. |
APS ES - Kids will not bring ipads home this year. Exception for 5th grade if they need to finish an assignment (i.e. a story they are writing).
2nd grade said they would use them as part of centers so kids may rotate to the ipad station for lexia or dream box. Science said they were trying not to use them this year and would be doing hands on activities. |
Our APS school is reverting back to pre-pandemic usage for the youngest kids. So in K they will only use them as part of rotations so it's maybe 10-15 minutes a few times a week. They will not have individual devices and they will not bring them home.
The older grades I don't know if they are going to 1 to 1, but they won't be coming home, and that's all I care about. Having the iPads INSIDE everyone's backpacks was a mess last year. I won't mind if it comes home for a project or an assignment, but I am glad to hear they will stay at school. |
APS 4th grade has an hour after lunch every day for "interventions." This time is used for extra help for kids that need it, to finish unfinished work and to make up assignments if they were out.
If your kid is none of these things, they spend at least an hour a day on their iPad. |
APS 1st grade teacher said that they'll use them for mandatory assessments, but will try not to use them any more than that. Kids have spent too much time on screens and need to practice writing and manipulating objects. |
They would use each of those 10-15 minutes at a time, and never the same days for all 3. So no, 1-2 hours a day is not happening. Our school doesn't use Seesaw at all and we are APS. |
Apparently having kids all have to remember their own passwords has been a disaster. Reports are that 1-2 iPads are having to be wiped and reformatted per day because kids have forgotten their password. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to have K-3rd graders remember their own passwords with no teacher support? Good job APS. |
We're at Claremont. They've been clear we are going back to "pre-pandemic" iPad usage, with minimal time on Lexia/Dreambox. iPads won't come home. My kids haven't even gotten their iPads yet but I expect it to be MUCH different than last year - thank god. I'm not the only one who feels that way - this update was met with actual cheers by parents at back to school night. |
We're at ASFS, 4th grade. Have been told ipads will start coming home as they will be doing reflex for math homework. I'm not a fan, mostly because I don't want to have to sit there and make sure kid gets off when done with reflex. May see if we can access reflex through APS on our home ipad because it has time limits/restrictions for everything else so I wouldn't have to micromanage. If we can do that I would probably request that ipad be left at school. |
No iPad in our elementary at all. |
