Half a dozen bakery brownies taste like an ash tray — how?

I mean beyond smokey bad. I have a headache after taking a bite and spitting it out. What in the world did they do? They’re closed today so I can’t call and ask. Was something else in the oven burning and they thought the brownies would still be fine? The brownies look fine but taste awful.

I don’t know, but I highly doubt your headache is related to one bite you didn’t even swallow.

I would guess that it’s some thing going on with you and not the brownies. You don’t get a headache from spitting out a bite.

No, the ash/smoke taste was really THAT intense. It was disgusting. Like getting a mouthful of stale old coffee grounds.

I was trying to figure out what was off after kids complained. It was far worse than I imagined and I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth. Very gross. No exaggeration. Cigarette smoke gives me a quick headache too.

I'm glad you spit it out, OP. There's likely a toxic contaminant in them.

An incident like this would make me avoid that bakery in the future. There's someone there that is not being careful.
